Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Very worried, have a mortgage and responsibilities, I work hard and do 120% why not JS and BOD do their jobs

I am tired, situation very depressing and I can’t sleep or stop thinking of what will happen to us, I am going to Dallas in September and leaving my family here, and yet this company and leadership are not trustworthy to make this big more

I find this post a bit suspicious- no one is required to move by September. Dallas and Atlanta were/are RTO after the July 4th holiday.

Some folks in other cities have indeed been told they will need to start reporting to Atlanta starting in September, so I would only assume the same would be true of Dallas.

If you have to move for this company to keep your job.... then you have bigger things to worry about.

Shake it off man, get a hold of yourself. Put on your big boy pants and get a job elsewhere with less stress.

Your a good man and a good employee. You will get your reward. Your family will understand. Think of it, like going off to War. You're a frickin' HERO.

Dust off your resume. Just because you show up doesn’t mean you will keep your job. You name was already accounted for as being off payroll for this. There is a number they are try to meet. If not enough go they will layoff. This “leadership” is ruthless and not led by good business sense.

“ So yes, for many managers reaching the MR75 is indeed worth it!!“

And for many like me, it’s completely worthless at this point. I have it but it gets me nothing. Cash balance pension is what it is. Still grateful to have it. No subsidized medical, no nothing. Don’t talk to me about a retiree wireless benefit less significant than the employee benefit, which itself can already be beat easily at TMO as a regular customer.

MR75 means A LOT depending on region and which RBOC you hired on with and depending on what year you hired on, if you are even eligible for a pension.

In some regions you don’t even have an opportunity for the lump sum until you hit MR75.

Also, your pension *depending on region/RBOC you hired on with is 2-3x higher once you hit MR75.

So yes, for many managers reaching the MR75 is indeed worth it!!

For some of us that have stayed over 20 plus years yes indeed it is difficult to move on. Right now it is a waiting game to see if you get a call or notice in the mail that your position has moved to Dallas/Atlanta. My coworker who lives in Oregon who recently had a stroke in May of this year and put in for a medical hardship to continue working remotely from home for 60 days. He was called this past week from our Director that his medical hardship was approved but his job was being moved to Dallas and he has until Sept 2023 to relocate or loose his job. Folks for some of us who are network engineers we have never reported to an office but have supported customers remotely. Times change just as life so maybe it is time to move on for sure before the hatchet falls. The leadership has FAILED US and we the ones who are customer facing pay the price with our jobs. The ones that move to Dallas/Atlanta , God Bless You just be prepared for more cuts down the road. Stock price this past Friday was the lowest in 29 years and the company has enormous debt right now on the books. How safe is your position right now ?

For those within 1-2 years of MR75, I bet if T made us MR75, we’d leave the next day. Heck I’d do it with no severance. The jump on the lump sum is such that it’s be worth it. Add a year to my age today, which adds $475k even with current segment rates, and I’ll ship you my PC and badge.

You have to be honest with yourself. Are your current work duties transferable to other companies? Maybe, maybe not. Many jobs at AT&T are telecom only positions. When I retired from AT&T I worked in the aviation field as an electronics technician with RF avionics and also at an engineering firm performing remote network analysis and maintenance. A college degree with an FCC license or CCNA will help you find a job. Many of the manager jobs at AT&T are not available elsewhere.

I've moved 3 times, last was Volentary.

Had about 10 years then a surplus, rust belt city job market was DOA. Was worth it to move. Family stayed behind for about 10 months (spouse worked).

10 years later another surplus, was close enough to MR 75 so I took a JOG to the west coast. Wished I didn't.

3 years later moved back to the rust belt.

made more $$$ working for T then I could working the same job elsewhere

Meh...your call.

Money's good. Do you want to move the fam...?

Man up and make a choice.

I been doing it for years under the threat of being surplussed every quarter.

Boo hoo.

MR75 means nothing for most Management Employees anymore. That ended about 2 years ago. At least it did for us in the SE.

In at least the old SBC region- you have to me mr75 to get the lump sum. For those close to that, I understand moving. For anyone else, understand this move is for temp employment. So I understand why you wouldn’t move your family. I will say if you are married conf to Dallas, there are a lot of jobs here outside of T.
As for T as a whole, it’s a dumpster fire and we all know RS & JS sacrificed the company and all of us on a huge gamble that didn’t pay off. Smarter leaders would be made better decisions but our BOD are not the smartest group of misfits either. So here we go, facing very uncertain times.

"For the person that recommended waiting on the rule of 75….if you are management all that includes are product discounts….no medical employee rate insurance"

Uhh, not exactly all ...It also potentially includes a huge difference in lump sum pension. That is the main reason anyone close to MR75 is sticking around.

If you are very close to MR75, I understand doing a “temporary” move.
For those that aren’t moving to MAJOR hub location (Dallas/Atlanta) consider your move plans carefully, as the other “hubs” could change in the future when they reshuffle the deck once again.
There is NO trust & transparency going on with ANY of this!

Even mobility won’t stand
The company is vanishing in thin air
JS and his team are the greatest magicians in history, they can disappear a company with size of T right front of your eyes

T’s future is very clear. It will be sliced into parts ,largely sold and outsourced . Mobility will likely be the only business unit standing under the T logo. There will always be work at T, likely low paying , limited benefits and short term jobs. Everything else will be sold and/ outsourced. This is the only way they can see their way out of this massive debt load. Get your skills in order, develop new ones and actively managed your career for your next move. Waiting around, dreading Mondays and looking over your shoulder everyday is no way to live long term. There is life after T.

Here is your problem, you give 120%
AT&T is not this kind of company to give your heart and mind to it, do you 40 hours a week and focus more on finding a better job
AT&T will give you stress and high blood pressure and sugar and possibly cancer
It is not healthy place to work for, read the people comments and you know it is a toxic place ki-ls you if you don’t leave in the right time
