Most managers…not all

They get soooo upset when the asked to work. Anything more than shuffling paper, sitting on endless conf calls, and sending useless emails. They begin to meltdown.

I don’t know if you call it a meltdown, but I was having some trouble with my TPS reports, I forgot to use the new cover sheet, and then eight different people told me I made a mistake. Yes, I got the memo, I just forgot, but I took care of it. Now, where’s my stapler?

I beg to differ. My job is not to boss people around. It is to support and develop people. Yes, I have to give assignments and help my team learn from mistakes. Big difference between being a boss and a leader. If you are a supervising manager and don't know this, please pack your desk and go".

Agree with this 100% when you're talking about management level professionals at AT&T. When you throw the union wrench in there with "craft" it becomes exponentially more difficult to say the least.

The union folks don't want management or leaders. They would prefer to just do whatever they want, whenever they want, for whatever reason they want most of the time and use managers as a get out of jail free card whenever it suits them. They use adversarial tone and language and provide false and biased information to manipulate managers every minute of every day to accomplish the ultimate goal of any union represented employee, which is to sit around doing as little as possible for the most amount of pay.

Good managers spend most of their time thwarting and mitigating this activity and some actually become great leaders despite the obvious challenges.

I'm just not understanding what the OP (obviously and uneducated union troll) is really trying to say here......

  1. Shuffling Paper: Part of the job of being a supervising manager I'm afraid. Administrative documentation is a critical key to success. Most supervising managers I know don't enjoy this part of the job, but they don't have any choice.
  1. Sitting on Endless Conf Calls: Again, just part of the job and it's never going to go away. I don't know a single manager that wouldn't like to see conference calls reduced or eliminated, but that's a pipe dream. Escalations, planning events, project stand-up, demo's, outages, performance reviews, etc......All of these things are generally handled via conference calls. Nothing to be done about it.
  1. Sending useless e-mails: E-mails should serve a purpose, yes and most managers live in e-mail all day long. Again, comes with the territory of being a manager. The reason most union turds are negative toward e-mail is because they don't use it generally as part of their job. They also don't like it because it serves as a paper trial in communication which they also hate.
  1. They begin to meltdown: Just stoopid. Only an id--t would think this.
  1. They get soooo upset when the asked to work: Union folks run around all day long saying managers can't do your job and the second they step in and try to do so, you scream and holler about them breaching your sacred contracts and start filing grievances. It's a catch 22 with no way out for the managers.

Light bulb: The manager wasn't hired to be a union technician.

I think this should say some “managers.” Managers in quotes because most of these are just office workers that are non-exempt. Why would you want to work a ton of extra hours if you aren’t getting paid extra. This is what craft just fails to understand and I can tell this poster was craft because all they do is complain about the “managers.” When someone brags about working 70,80,90,100+ hours that’s salary I look at them and think they are an id--t. If I was hourly and got paid overtime, heck yeah.

Why would anyone want to take on new work when they will be gone in the next 6 months..im not moving just sticking around for severance…I’ll get my work done but going above what’s required is over.
