Don't count on unemployment to save you

See a few posts discussing unemployment benefits... make sure to research your local/state laws. My state has a max payout which is less than 50% (closer to 30%) of what I earn for salary. A second/part time job only allows you to earn approx 30% of that max before starting to subtract dollars from it.
An example: If you earn 1500 + per week and unemployment max is 500 per week, you are allowed to get a part time job and earn an additional 150 per week. If you earn more than 150, they start deducting it - dollar for dollar - from that 500.
Basically the max you can earn is 650 per week in that example.

Another note: Check the laws regarding when you can start receiving unemployment if you take a severance package.

In Florida, my state, max is $275 per week. I would love $500 per week.

In NC it's $350 max and that's 17.5% of my weekly pay.
