Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

There is absolutely no culture at AT&T anymore.

When I say no culture, I mean it does not exist. Everyone hates this place. It is hard to look past arrogant S0B's as leadership who are clueless about business and have destroyed everything they touch.

If they carry out the plan that was set forth, I believe upwards of 30K employees will leave this company in a short amount of time. They will only look back to stand up a finger in salute.

When 10-15K leave with no regard for the jobs being left behind, it will cause the company to default on contracts and not be able to support its infrastructure. Just image 30K. They are decimating support and development teams that keep this company treading water.

“And the worst part this HR treat you like 💩”
I can certainly identify with that. I worked in ATT HR for over 10 years and can honestly say my time in the sh---y organization was the absolute WORST. Why did I work in the pithole of a group so long? I kept thinking things would change for the better. Decent money, decent benefits, 20 minute commute…. I can see now how wrong I was.
Looking back, I put up with massive egos, massive fu-kups who pretend they are “leaders”, complete id--ts who can’t even handle a simple word document, useless “required” training…. On top of that, sh---y little 3rd lines and AVPs so fu----g young and inexperienced they make fools of themselves in meetings with far more experienced underlings.
It’s a fu----g joke! HR is by far the worst group at ATT.

"Who with even moderate skills wants to work for the phone company, in Dallas, and go into a worse-than-average office, for 3-5 days a week, especially for below-average pay for those with technical roles?"

People who come to work in specific skill areas, with no illusions, and plans to move on, that's who. Just here to burnish a resume and don't really care what happens 5 years down the road. Unfortunately, the company has a zillion legacy systems (you know, because employees 20 years ago built stuff to last and the company has no $ to fix what ain't broke) and the few college kids they hire have options and don't agree to work on any of them. Maybe the foreigners will figure it all out, with no guidance. Ha!

I'm going to enjoy retirement where the only AT&T news I pay attention to is when I see it has fallen and it can't get up. And it will happen.

"They will hire new employees. "

Who? Who with even moderate skills wants to work for the phone company, in Dallas, and go into a worse-than-average office, for 3-5 days a week, especially for below-average pay for those with technical roles?

My group tried to fill a role for someone with an education that's traditionally very low paying (English or Communications degree), but they would have come in under a title that paid well above the average for those majors. We tried six months, interviewed about two dozen, extended job offers to three, and were ghosted on every single one. The job's still open.

Now tell me that they're going to find software engineers, cloud architects, even project managers who want to put up with this stuff, and staff up by the thousands in short order. It's not going to happen.

Work will be sent to the hubs overseas, all part of the plan. They will hire new employees.

Employees want to continue to do little work for their pay. That's your culture. They need to step up and be more productive.

you can't have a winning culture when leadership has no respect for its employees. It's one thing to reduce costs and consolidate hubs. It's understandable. The way they are doing in will only lead to lower productivity. Those that stay on will be overwhelmed with complex work and those leaving within a year will do the bare minimum. All employees want is flexibility, most people are hard workers and willing to help others. There are others who are useless. Bad leadership, bad results.

In my long career28 years, 5 companies, I never saw anything like at&t
There is zero trust with upper management
Zero trust with organizations plans
Zero trust on stability, doing 100% of your work mean nothing
And the worst part this HR treat you like 💩

T has been on life support for 10 years. The only service we provide that is margin positive is mobility. The big problem with this is that every other company is consistently lowering prices. No one will stick with T for $30-$70+ per line a month or more when MVNOs are offering unlimited for $15- $25 a month. T is bleeding through the tourniquet. Just a matter of time. Google Amazons potential Interest in mobility…that would spell disaster very quickly.

I’m excited for it but I better change wireless service before it starts to fail.
