Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Don't wait to see what's going to happen

I don't get those who don't plan to relocate but are still not looking for a new job because they are "waiting to see what's going to happen." What are you waiting for, a miracle? For Stankey to grow a conscience? Something else? By the time you realize there is no miracle coming, all the good jobs will be gone. But you do you, I guess.

I think what the OP meant was, get started on your job search. They didn’t say quit now.

Why wait until you find out? Begins with "s" and ends with "everance." Why jump ship now if you can work a couple months and get 6 months salary?

People have different circumstances. Some people have planned well, both financially and otherwise, and can afford to take some time off. Some may be near retirement. In those situations, waiting to "see what happens" may make more sense than leaving early. Other than to be empathetic towards those impacted, I personally wouldn't spend any time wondering about what other people are doing- focus on what is right for your family and your own circumstances.

Waiting on a six month severance package Am I off payroll date which will be the date I am available to begin working a new job. Not holding off on applying, but not gonna just quit without getting my six month pay period start dates can be negotiated with a new company.

There are a lot of T people who think brushing up on skills is nothing more than dusting off the old FORTRAN books - archaic skill sets.

Having been through many layoffs, I would advise everyone to keep their resumes updated and actively look for jobs if you aren’t planning on moving. It’s much easier to find a job when you have one than when you are unemployed.

Re
A large majority of employees have no option or choice but to wait. Technical skill levels are low and a majority haven’t kept up with current technology and will have few options in the current job market.

How do you make such a broad stroke assumption about an estimated 15K people.
This just seems more like a troll $h@+ post
Add something of value or go back to 4chan and drink your mountain-dew

"I don't get those who don't plan" ... to flush severance pay down the toilet.

Site closings and work moving to other locations isn't new. It also isn't new what the deal is if these things happen.
