Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

This is not really a "Return to Work"

What's happening at AT&T isn't really a "Return to Work". It is far broader than that, with the massive consolidation of work areas, purported reorganization of distributed teams, etc. It is being couched as RTO- but that is gas lighting; that this is ostensibly the "fault" of the workforce for not being "RTO" enough. It's a reduction in force without having to pay severance. It seems like a desperate move.

I haven't seen many people mention this. Everybody is so fixated on the RTO and relocation aspect that they are missing the real truth behind this. Yes, some severance might get paid to people who decide not to relocate, but I'm betting you it will not be anything like if it was an actual layoff. AT&T and Stanky want to get rid of as many people as they can while paying as little as possible. This is the way they decided to use.

First its return to office. Then they will expect you to actually work. AT&T is very sneaky.

This is, of course, about layoffs. Under the terms of the company’s severance policy, they have to pay if asked to relocate to keep one’s job.

There has been site closings before, and work that has moved to other locations before. They'll be no difference this time compared to the previous times. Some people will be able to follow the work, just like before.

It's going to be the exact same deal.

Same thoughts I have had since the beginning of this. Right on they are getting a force reduction done at 0 cost.

“They” are making money and that’s all that is important to them.

OMG this company has lost money for decades. Worst leadership in business history.

AT&T is notorious for dissecting companies. They take the guts out and scrap the rest allowing others to feed off the dead carcass. Every company they merged with has dissolved. They destroy competition & that’s why the FCC puts strict provisions & limits on them. In the end, if they want something bad enough in their portfolio they Will agree to just about anything and take the hit until the deadline. Cold but it’s business. In their eyes they are successful because “They” are making money and that’s all that is important to them. Streaming Money ~ That’s what they are in business for.

You hit on the really good point that it is complete distrust. This is inline with the authoritarian nature of our nation today. These people won’t stop until they can control you to the smallest level. 1984 was supposed to be a story, not a blueprint.
