AT&T leadership is nothing short of pathetic. They refuse to be honest with the employees and simply say... we screwed everything up multiple times at great expense to everyone but themselves and you have to pay the price. They ask a consulting firm for a creative way to save money and it's always the same ... just the packaging is different. Meanwhile they have no clue and drive the company deeper into the ground. They can't win. They don't know how.

This is not about return to office. This is as many have said about firing people. But even in that, Stankey is failing. Instead of letting us make the decision on who to let go and who to keep, they are forcing it based on where you live, no matter how good you may be at your work. Who does that outside of some desperate other companies that can not lead (like IBM).

The truth is it’s been a free for all for a very long time and now that that’s ending your upset. My boss works from home and he’s definitely in turtle mode. I do whatever he asks asap and he does nothing I ask and then forgets about it.

There is a reason NO ONE in T leadership can answer the question, “how will the improved productivity resulting from RTO be measured?” Because it’s not about productivity. It’s just a cowardly headcount reduction exercise.

This is what happens to a company when you get SBC executive management that ran their business like a monopoly come in to ATT with the same mind set and completely destroy an iconic corporate brand. I hear it all the time from people on the outside that would no longer purchase any overpriced services from ATT! T is in some serious trouble and better get its act together!

These aren't the changes that are needed. T has always been able to purge as many managers as it wanted and still can.

Let the people who know how the business operates make the decisions as to who stays and who goes, and let us be accountable for our decisions by whether we deliver or not. Funny how they read the survey stuff about "no one's in the office when I go there" but they ignore the stuff about "let line management make decisions and hold them accountable for them." Something thousands of us have been saying for years now. Instead of ending the mindless micromanagement, they go to micromanagement to the 10th power.

Forcing a solution which no one who actually knows anything even wants is id--tic.

Forcing this after various leaders including DRs to Stankey repeatedly said on town halls up to and including late 2022, that they would consolidate locations over time via hiring and advancement but leave remote people in place in their current roles, is worse than id--tic. It's called "lying."

I think there are two different ideas that get mixed together. There are people that worked in an office, and with the pandemic, ended up working from home. I don't know how it affected their productivity. They claim it hasn't, but I'm not going to try to pretend to know. This group has been very resistant to an idea of going back, and I don't blame them. They fall under the above statement.

Then there is another group, of thousands of managers who already worked remotely, for many years, if not their entire careers. Some are in specific areas where they needed. Others just do the job that never required them to be in an office. This group is getting hit the hardest, and they have not done anything wrong. They're not the ones refusing to come back. Most simply don't have an office to go back to, or they would have been designated as office or flex to begin with. Now the office workers are facing inconveniences of traffic, parking, wasted time and crowded campuses. Full time teleworkers are facing unemployment.

Point being. Some like to make statements like "stop crying and go back to work like everyone else...", but there is a very different scenario unfolding as we speak, hidden behind the convenient excuse of RTO.
