Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Att product group have to reapply before offered relocation! Really..

Coworkers are being relocated only after they reapply and maybe interviewed. Our most valuable resource, employees have to see if HR will even interview them first.

What are the odds that for the ones that do not have to reapply to keep their job before moving to a hub that they will have to once they have moved?

T hasn’t developed or launched their own successful product in 15 years…..so it’s not a surprise.

Yes - True.. You need to reapply for your job title". So fd up because if you've been doing that job for 10+ years and 30 ppl have that same job title, where theres only "now" 10 positions, there's a possibility you will not get the job.

When a craft employee is surplussed and decides to take another position with AT&T you will be required to take a physical in all cases and a qualification test for some positions. If you flunk the physical you’re considered unable to work until a physician treats the condition. After retest you can go to work. No severance at this point.

May be fake, may be real, nothing will surprise me anymore. But let's assume it's possible. If someone is asked to decide if they want to relocate, or take the severance and leave now. Then, if they say they'll move, they're asked to re-apply for their job. They do, and for whatever reason are told they don't get it. Did they already give up their severance by simply trying? I hope it's not the case, but like I said, I won't be surprised, if the company says well you had an option to take the severance, you declined, now, unfortunately, we just don't have a position for you anymore, so you can work till whatever date and maybe try to find another, but if not, you're just out. Maybe another intimidation tactic to coerce people into just leaving now?

Product is the most over staffed useless organization, so if this is true, it is long overdue.

Must be a Lvl 3 or above. Go take a look!

"This is an innovative idea that should be implemented across T."

T has never been short of "innovative" ideas with the intention of getting of employees. The company would have been successful if any of their "Innovative" ideas were good.

At this point, everyone should have to reapply for their job the help with cost savings initiative. This will help identify redundant job and slackers. First step to getting total headcount less than 100K. JTS is making T great again. Only those dedicate need to apply

Interview with academic record's and required certifications. No exemptions. Dr-g test also.

This is an innovative idea that should be implemented across T. All employees should have to periodically apply for their position. Maybe every 5 years. Have you become stagnant? If yes, you still leave with your 401K match since you’ve got the 5-year mark. T wouldn’t have as much chronic dead weight if this policy was applied across the organization.

It is true and waiting to see where else this new criteria will spread. My last boss informed me he was instructed to let go his two best employees because they were paid too much! Another organization leader shared its all about overseas replacements that are paid 8 to 10 cents to the dollar.

This is true. We were told by AVP that they are interviewing internal and external. Granted, there may actually be talent outside of the Stankey Towers of Perpetual Thought, but it just seems odd to keep adding if their real goal is subtraction. This place is a mess.

I guess for $25M per year, I could turn the other cheek, but how does JS really feel knowing 90% (and this may be conservative) of his employees and retirees find him incompetent and mostly responsible for the fall of this company.

This is true. It is happening under Julie K’s finance organization for pricing , aka ICB, and contracting as well. Job openings are listed both internally and externally for Dallas and Atlanta. We were told to apply if we planned on relocating.
