Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Makes no sense

2 or 3 days a week in an office is useless.

Either make it 5 days a week in the office with up to x weeks of remote or make it full time remote.

When an office requires 2 days a week in an office, you get none of the alleged benefits of in person work as everyone chooses which days they want. In a part time remote situation, the office ends up being 60% empty all the time anyways… And it's almost always a waste of time to hold a meeting in an office if even one of the attendees is remote, which is extremely common in modern teams.

As a 100% remote FTE, I am scared to death about getting a “you MUST go to an office 3 days a week or you’re gone”. That would be unethical as he-l, but I suppose it could happen.

@jfp even that is a useless metric. I could sit at work all day long and simply click through Service Now links and WF would think I am working. Not to mention that many groups, like mine, no longer use Skype unless required by some group that is avoiding the go-forward solution.

People will always find ways around rules they see as unfair, management needs to stop fighting this. A better solution would be to come up with a reasonable system of metrics (is your work getting done, are you available as needed, are you contributing to improving things) that enable a flexible hybrid system that works for every employee rather than treating everyone like a call center employee who needs to be physically operating their computer for 8 hours a day.

Efficiency is one thing, ignorance is another.

Make it zero. Save everybody the damn time. And fire the unproductive ones holding us all back. Why so difficult for you charlie? Measuring time away from Skype would be more fruitful for you than office hours. Fu---n brainiac.

FRTO. Those who came up with this failed policy will leave the company in a year or two. Nothing permanent about it, or them. It's inefficient, hamstrings our potential competitive advantage, and costs a fortune. It won't work, and it can't work.

I don’t mind RTO, and I roll my eyes at those who constantly whine about the 3 day requirement. However, the 3-day hybrid approach has been communicated as a permanent solution from my recollection. Would be disappointing to change gears on that commitment.

I have heard the goal is 4 days a week at some point. Heard this repeatedly from a number of senior people. CIC in Charlotte has a few thousand open seats, so plenty of room there.

I prefer remote. But, if I can't have full time remote I would prefer hybrid. I love that I get to choose my own schedule and that the office is mostly empty. Sure, it feels useless but the alternative is 5 days in office with everybody on top of everybody else. Stress trying to find a parking space, people and the drama they bring all over the place, stinky crowded bathrooms, long lines in the cafe, and an inflexible schedule. Yea, if I can't have remote I'll take hybrid. I never want to do 5 days in office again in my life.

Barely enough room on many campuses already at 3 days per week.

We will be 5 days in the office in the near future. Am I in the know? No. Just a feeling. A feeling I would be willing to bet $ on. Down vote the heck out of this if you want. But I think I likely will be telling you “told you so”.

Partial works great, you get to interact in person and be able to do things from home when you need to work from home for other reasons. This post is weird.
