Boss ranks team top to bottom and chooses who, director reviews and adjusts if for some reason they disagree. List gets sent to hr. Biggest factor is if your boss likes you. "Reasons" they choose or dont choose you can be easily spun. Dont expect fairness.

When surplused 4 years ago I was told my job was eliminated and my reports went to other management or their jobs eventually was offshored. My boss disliked me because when I moved to his org I made more than him and he let me know it each year end review.

In my group, it’s my Director making the cut list. Pretty sure I’m the chosen one even though I report to a HUB location, get good reviews and feedback. That doesn’t seem to matter. I’m older but not quite ready to stop working but that decision is going to be made for me very soon after 25 years of service. HR is going to have their hands full with all the paperwork to process in less than two weeks. BTW, HR told management not to tell their people there was a planned surplus.

Really? Are you the same person that asked where the Florida hub is located. Get with the program! I heard an inability to write a good sentence is one of the criteria to be selected.

It's usually your boss' discretion. If they think you're worth saving, you'll likely be saved. However, this situation is different. Business is making it very hard for anyone to be protected. The whole RTO is to push a new level of departures of folks that would normally be protected.

Your boss is the one who decides. If he/she does not like you then you will be picked. Most likely you are not a top performer for the same reason.

You'll never know exactly why you're selected, unless you are a documented poor performer.

Truth of the matter is, as I see it having been around a while...most all of those folks are gone (at least in my org).

Your AM or supervisor will read you the prepared HR script (literally) and absolutely won't answer your inquiry of "why me"?

I've talked with several folks over the last few years that were shown the door, they always want to know, and they never get an answer (by design).
