Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Stinky says the key to employee morale is communication

During his employee earnings meeting, he was asked how do you balance employee morale with the needs of the business.

His response was that the key to being a good leader is "communicating, communicating, communicating".

It appears that the beatings will continue.

edit:

The plan is to just cut, cut and more cuts and "duck" everyone so people in "leadership" can stick around and send their kids to private school

Cut the unneeded workers. AT&T don't need that many workers.

I've been in layoff discussion with SVP's. Here is the view they take which is parroting Stankey. It isn't you are unhappy about pay, working conditions, layoffs etc. You are unhappy because you don't understand what the plan is and it is both his and his underlings job to explain it to you. Once it is explained to you and you understand, the morale will improve. I'm not kidding. That is how they think.

They seem somewhat out of touch with the workforce that allows them to be employed. Maybe I'm wrong.

How does Stankey communicate? He blames all rank and file employees for all the failed acquisitions. He claims the reason for the failures was the employees didn't execute on his plan!

How disgraceful, an absolute disgrace is how I would describe the upper mis-management of this company! I can't call it leadership because nobody in upper management qualifies as a leader, unfortunately! The truth is in the pudding! They ran the ship aground and now the employees have to pay the price!

“ Hey guys , what word can we use in this call that will wow our employees, that we haven’t used in a few months?” “ How about Pivot?” …… “ Nah” ..” How about reposition?” …” nah that won’t work” … “I GOT IT!, communication!”……” Brilliant… Think they will buy it?…….yep”

Stankey can't even communicate a standard, unified telecommunicator policy at at&t. Every VP has a different understanding of the policy. Has Stankey ever, I mean ever, successfully completed or implemented any corporate policy to the best of your knowledge?

Stankey will be happy to tell you that he knows more about communicating than anyone else on the planet.

Not sure Stink understands that communication actually goes both ways and not just everyone listening to what he says.

turns a question into a declaration that he is a good leader and the reason why. artful narcissism.

Of course, the punchline is that for Stank "communicating" means lying.

The key to morale is to complain about the same things, over and over. It just doesn't get better than that.

I think the Stink is trying; albeit, he has a tough climb to dig back from his terrible image with employees. I think going back to the roots of wireless and wireline is the right answer, it’s just not a growth industry like it was. Steady and reliable is all we need. That being said, we’ve had cut after cut after cut with many folks doing multiple jobs. Headcount numbers tell the story over the past 10 years. Some people like to comment they do nothing, man idk what team you work for (are they hiring?). We struggle to keep our head above water. No lunch breaks, work nights and weekends a good bit, on-call schedules. Yeah it’s rough. I think Stink needs to try something else other than the tired headcount reduction. We’ve got bone that’s been cut through at this point.

Although communication is important as a leader, he missed at least two opportunities in replying with "communication" three times...how about some of that transparency they're always talking about? Empathy, being genuine, and trust.
