Many of us just don't want to work anymore so we're simply putting in the least amount effort, energy, focus and time as possible without getting fired. We all know it doesn't really matter whether or not we strive to be a golden boy or girl because in the end, we're all just numbers anyways.

I never understood the people that live eat and breathe their jobs. Man get a life, pay attention to your family (if you still have one), get a hobby. At the end of the day, I do my job and try my best to go home and leave it at the door. I’m a cost item to them, I try to make sure I bring more value than I cost. Likewise, they are a dollar amount to me. If I can find something that pays me more with less stress, then I’ll bounce. I don’t have the golden handcuff pension like most of you.
If you believe the ship is that far gone and sinking, do the rest of us a favor, including coworkers that may want to stay on board and abandon the ship.
Naw, I'll slow walk my way to the lifeboats, then jump off with my pension, 401K and health insurance in retirement. WHAT?? You don't have health insurance in retirement.!! Dang, I guess AT&T doesn't value you as much as you thought.

The question is still germane: You would not like it if your employer defrauded you of your wages, so why would you defraud them of work?
If you don't want to answer that question, just answer this question then: How are you any different from Stankey? Isn't that the very thing you accuse him of doing- collecting a paycheck but not bringing any value to the company?
The expectation that things should be better when we don't hold ourselves to that standard is a major societal failing. It isn't just in work. People dress like pigs, and then we wonder why women don't look beautiful any more. We moan and complain about how much people lie, cheat, and steal, and then turn around and do the same thing ourselves. You have selective outrage. Typical of a person with a warped, subjective sense of morality. I am hardly righteous, but I do have an objective morality. I am reasonable enough to notice when a person is staring into a restaurant, but not going in, that they are homeless and probably hungry. I am also objective enough to say if a business gives me a job, I should do my best at that job.
Not to OP here. The difference is, there is nothing I or 10 thousand employees such as myself could do or could have done that would have caused the damage to AT&T that Randell and Stankey have done. Therefore, there is nothing I or 10 thousand others can do to correct the problem.
If your Captain runs the ship into an iceberg, do you double down, run down to the boiler room to work your azz off to help shovel coal into the boilers, or do you start making your way toward the lifeboats? Tying to go above and beyond with this place is like trying bailing water out of the Titanic.
Do your best at the job. I agree, and nothing above and beyond that. Has going above and beyond made you anywhere near the $22,473,000 that Stankey got paid in 2022? Is putting in all that effort, just to be let go because we need to increase the stock price worth all that extra effort? Just remember, at the end of the day, we are NOTHING but a number on a spreadsheet to them. Treat them the same.

People like the OP are the reason why people like me have to babysit on endless bridge calls and why these same individuals sit around waiting for me to do something instead of doing it themselves. I have been here long enough to see the slow and deathly decline of AT&T. Yet I'm still here. Why? The pay is great, the benefits are decent, and honestly, the work is not hard. Through numerous layoffs and countless 'meetings' that you don't forward to anyone else, you can definitely feel the squeeze. I see the sinking ship in front of my eyes and will milk it for as long as I can, and I'm sure many others feel the same. I owe nothing to ATT, they pay me, I do the task that is assigned to me. Simple as that. I'm not going to work harder so Stank can enjoy a bigger paycheck. F that guy. OP, you're right, we are just a number and I'm glad that folks are starting to realize this. We work all our lives to line the pockets of jerks like Stank and Randall, and we get left with the pink slips if they sc--w up.
This (poster's comments) has nothing to do with 'ideology' or awareness of inequalities, but rather a person who lacks character and integrity. If he/she had said qualities, he would have exited the business a long time ago instead of gaming the system.
I think I know you. You sit around complaining about off shoring and do nothing when you have the opportunity to step in and help out, but instead you push back saying that is not my job or let sh-t hit the fan knowing someone else will care for it.
I’m on a good team and in a good group these days. I’ve been in terrible groups before, so I know what that’s like. It will totally eat you up inside. So depending on where you’re sitting. Look to change your situation. Find a good group to go to or another company to work for. No one should stay where they are miserable.
I love this job! Where else an you work about 15 hours per week and get paid for 40! I wish I could get my friends a job with T doing what I do!
