And how's that going for you without a union?

The problem is how corrupt unions quickly become and focus more on politics and ideology rather than doing what's right by the employees they represent. If a union was formed and stuck strictly to helping the contract and nothing else, you wouldn't even need large dues to cover it. Once the union starts feeding those dues to one political party or the other, then it just becomes another way of funding that party. If we could get decent pay, and consistent bonus tied to actual performance (rather than subjective favorites of the managers), standard benefits that actually help, and end RTO where applicable (work well = work from home, work poorly = back in the office) it would be fine.

A union would be stupid. It would just trigger bigger layoffs and offshoring. We'd be left with nothing but entry level greeters and digital chat bots manned by Indians.

A union that was formed which had a lone major objective, end RTO, would have widespread support. Unions do a lot of stupid things, but that would be a good way to get anti-unionists on board.

If I were Charlie, I would be anti-Union too.

I would launch a fierce battle against my employees organizing together to have power over their work lives. I would prefer my employees be defenseless and vulnerable at all times. Without a union, I’m in total control and you have no say, if you want to keep your job. I can pay you less and myself more. I can lay you off for no reason. I can code you as “exempt” and not pay you overtime. I can force you to re-interview if you want to keep your job. I can make you train your replacement in India. I can play with the benefits which protect your families.

Less for you = more for me.

Chuck ordered a PowerPoint to address the topic, probably followed by a softball question at some lame town hall. Go figure.

Unions gain popularity because it supports the bottom and suppresses the top. There are more bottom feeders than top performers though. If you're eager to grow and develop, then unions are not the way. Companies don't like them because not only do they lose more control but they pay more for lower performance.

All the senior leaders have a contract with guarantees and golden parachute protections from getting the axe. Good for me and not for thee.

If non-union capitalism is so great, why are corporations going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to try and convince their own employees that it is?

Great products sell themselves.

Yeah why won't anyone refute his well-cited claim "Unions are for the lazy folks so it makes sense with todays workforce." ?!?!? lol

here come the shills to tell us how nobody wants a union while also the company is evidently increasingly terrified at the prospect of paying its employees fairly

Ha...a union will make this a better place? Give me a break. Unions incent laziness and production actually decreases because there's no incentive. There's no way those words came out of a true financial advisor or at least not a successful one.

Funny how corporations love the idea of outsourcing the management of jobs unless the outsourcing is to a union.

Nothing happening or could happen at WF (internal or external forces) is unique to the company. Unions are a buzzword for a new generation of workers who are more than ever impacted by ordinary wages outmatched by inflation and price gouging to do normal American-dream things like buy a house, a car, pay off student loans, etc.

Unions give the impression as a solution for job security/protections, it is not about laziness at all. Unions do not guarantee that people will lose their jobs and often union mgmt over time ends up becoming a corporate mgmt puppet. Yet there is definitely a voice needing to be heard since today's economic climate feels unbelievably difficult to navigate (bootstraps are too weak to pull up). When money is hoarded and majority feel a struggle (regardless of whether they are doing light work such as a teller or barista), naturally things like unionization will come to the surface.

We know unions are not needed in modern society yet because of the increased utterance of the word lately it is revealing something important. No one in their right mind who is struggling would want to spend extra money on union dues or work double hard to have their voice heard if their basic needs are being met relative to economic conditions.

There will always be some sort political angle but really the topic of unions should stay out of the public domain and be handled by the private sector accordingly.

Considering the rate of outsourcing, Charlie is well on his way to insuring that activist employees won’t have a seat in any Hub.. unless they’re in India or Manila where labor unions are a fairytale they tell to children before they go to work in the factory.🤷🏻
