Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Some of us in "hub cities" should offer a spare room. Airbnb opportunity.

Really, offer a room, Airbnb. Allow those who have been Phucked by AT&T, a little time to get their bearings. Pretty sure most of the folks getting screwed by Stankey have much more integrity than our CEO. They would be good tenants. Allow them to follow the work and leave their family intact at home. Make a little bit of money and save your coworker a bunch of money and time to get away from AT&T.

"The company doesn't own the employee and as long as you list your residence address as the rental near the hub you would be fine. They can't tell you how and where to spend your weekends."

Correct. The company's position regarding how you get to work based on where you live is your decision as long as you're at your work location at start time. Live anywhere you want just be at work at start time until stop time.

Some orgs are being told they cannot simply rent a room in a hub and travel home every weekend.

Those "orgs" "leadership" can take a long walk off of a short pier. They are bluffing.

This scenario is still a possibility. Really tough to say for sure until change of venue is determined and more details to make an informed decision. I know of several people over the years who got apartments with other employees and lived the bachelor life when families couldn't move, etc. Went home on weekends or when they could.

This is a great idea and I hope people do this. I will leave, but if I needed to work a few more years I would look for an arrangement like this.

And I agree in terms of the company having no say in whether you do this or really move your family. What could they do, home inspections? There are mailbox services that will forward your mail, so you can make the mailing address the company sees local to the hub. I have had employees do this. The company did not find out.

Taxes might be interesting.

Relocated to Dallas years ago with relocation package. I had to stay 2 years or repay the package. I stayed with family and moved back 3 years later. Company cannot dictate where you live, even with a package. Just a bluff.

Good idea for some folks. Personally, not for me. When I accepted employment at AT&T, I didn't do so with the notion of spending nights away from my family on a regular basis. I would never have accepted a job involving travel , and this is not what I signed up for. I'm praying that I get an opportunity for severance, and am also hoping my fellow workmates will come out okay as this giant mess unfolds. It almost seems like it might be unraveling. I guess time will tell. I wish we didn't have to live with these weeks of uncertainty. I'm normally really motivated to do my best, but now I can barely get organized to get anything done. This morning, I made a pact to take care of myself while all of this goes down, and to put my own mental and physical health ahead of AT&T's interests. So I am making sure that I am eating right, getting exercise, and de-stressing as much as possible. I wish everyone the best.

If I didn't have full house and wasn't an hour from Dallas, I'd put up a spare room on Airbnb and only take AT&T transplants.
