"I was an area manager for a few years and we did have a period of time where we were allotted 1 spot for the highest rating, and 1 or 2 had to be rated in the does not meet. The rest fell in that meets expectation. I was terrible because I did not have people who fell into the low category but we were forced to put some there."

That was my experience also.

Never been a forced bottom; just a forced top 30%.

Whole thing is a joke. Most of the bosses Ive worked for have NO knowledge of what I did NOR DID THEY WANT TO KNOW. Had one straight up say if he has to know the details of what i do its because im not doing it well and he has to get involved. These same CLOWNS then have to rank me and play God over my livelihood?? In 20 years ive noticed they rank their buttbudies on top and everyone else underneath regardless of performance.

last year only 10 percent could be in top performer category… were encouraged to have 10-20 percent in lowest category…top category doesn’t save you either with FMPs…

also had to do a ladder ranking for entire team —- #1 to #20…we all know why that was done…

All performance evaluations are a forced distribution.

Yes, they limit higher ratings, because if you are rated higher, then your annual merit increase is higher. Those funds are limited, so they limit the number of eligible employees... regardless of individual contributions. Its all about the $$$.

Things might have changed since I left in 2021. But, i was a L2/L3 manager for around 9 years, and there was not a forced distribution of lower ratings. This was in part because we had already laid off low-performers. The Bell Curve and forced distribution mainly applied to exceeds and far exceeds ratings.
