Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No severance

I was told no severance will be paid if your position is moving. If you refuse to move, you go without any kind of package. I have a good source in HR and that’s the info they have been given.

Can this possibly be true or is somebody just trying to scare people for no good reason?

You are selective in what you believe. If it suits your needs you believe it. If not you don’t. Believe what you want to about severance if it makes you feel better. You’ve allowed yourself to become desperate so whatever eases your pain.

Perfect example of why you should have an emergency fun of at least 6 months at your immediate disposal. I’d be terrified if I didn’t have one. If you don’t have any money saved or a Plan B by now, you’ shouldn’t be on this site calling anyone an id--t. The id--t is you. Good luck.

This is made up. You have no contact in HR. Stop making things up. You can bet your a$$ Corey Anthony would not have stated during his fireside chat, with thousands listening, that those that could not/ would not relocate to a hub city if their job was moved WOULD be eligible for severance, if they did not intend on paying the severance.

The FAQ question is “if my position is eliminated, will I be offered severance”. It depends on what they mean by “eliminated”. We do not know if they say position is not eliminated but relocated. Who knows?

Speaking for NJ, if more than 50 employees are impacted, the new law requires mandatory severance of 1 week pay for every 1 year of service (No 6 month cap) and additional 4 weeks pay if not given 90 days notice. This qualifies for layoffs and “operational transfers”. Not sure if these Hub forced relo qualify as operational transfer but it might. Google it

We have been told that severance will be offered under certain conditions. What those conditions are have not been spelled out. That's one of the big problems with this entire debacle. NO details have been provided and we are well past the two week mark of the initial announcement.

My own view/belief is that while AT&T is not generally required by law (someone mentioned it is required for certain states... I have not heard/seen anything to that affect in my state), AT&T has customarily provided severance in these situations. In addition, other companies do provide severance under these conditions as well. If AT&T does not provide severance, I think it sets up T as a company that tech workers will shun in the future. In addition, it has been stated in writing (e.g., the FAQ) that severance will be provided for job eliminations, but again, the language is vague. Hence, while I believe that severance is probable in some cases, I am not going to personally count on it. Better to be pleasantly surprised than to be disappointed.

The only thing for certain in my case is that I will be impacted one way or another, since I do not live in commuting distance of a hub, and I will not relocate. I am definitely not going to "quit" voluntarily, as that gains me nothing and would most likely jeopordize my ability to collect unemployment. Unemployment is much more certain thing for me since my state allows unemployment compensation in these situations. I wish everone the best in navigating through this colossal mess.

"I love that people think that AT&T has to give a severance. They have the right to change/revoke severance at any time in any situation because it is not required by law. There has been no official documented communication that severance will be offered so it is still a ?"

We all know they don't have to, but you're wrong when you say there has been no official document stating it will be offered. The RTW FAQ does say there will be severance. Sure, I'm not aware of anyone receiving an official offer yet, but they wouldn't put it in there if they weren't going to offer it, right?

Well, who are you quoting? Yourself, or your contact at HR? We have written statements in the FAQ that there should be severance to those who qualifies, and also on every town hall this question was asked, and they (whoever the leaders running it at the time) all said, yes, so we have all that, vs an anonymous claim on the internet.

Everything is still possible at this point, of course, but I think for now, I'll keep expecting it per the information they're giving.

Not true, already been stated if the move is further than 50 or 60miles then per guidelines they have to give severance.
