Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Leadership First

People don’t leave bad jobs; they leave bad leaders.

Many of the problems existing in varying organizations today come from pi-s poor leadership and management. While great leaders encourage their employees to reach their full potential and help their organizations surpass their goals, weak managers push their employees away to the point where many jump ship.

According to Greg Savage, mostly people don’t change jobs solely for money. They rarely resign on a whim or in a fit of anger. They joined the company because they believed it was right for them and wanted it to be right. Something, at some point, made it wrong. And if you really take the time to dig into their real reasons for leaving — and you should — you will find that it’s not “the company” they blame. It’s not the location, or the team, or the database or the air-conditioning. It’s the leadership!

So, next time you get a resignation, resist the temptation to laugh it off as “another d-mbo whodoesn’t get us.” It’s not the departing employee who doesn’t “get it.” It’s not the company they are leaving; it’s the leadership.

Such anger issues, Einstein.
Bad day at Oracle? Fear is getting to you?
Your perception is jaded.
Maybe post was intended to offer hope to the honest hardworking individuals showing that there are good things outside of Oracles corrupt middle mgmt prison.

All of the good leadership in the world doesn't mitigate the fact that promotions, bonuses, raises and stock awards are cr-p in this company. my manager and director are fine and are probably one the reasons why I don't quit. My Sr. Director - probably OK. None of these folks are calling the shots as far as what monies are available for compensation. Hard to feel like a valued employee when we're adding commute time and expenses for that feel-good office experience and not seeing any salary adjustments coming in to cover those costs. With the rate of price inflation for consumer goods, not getting a raise is like getting a salary cut.

It has always been leadership that is important. But, the most important part of that is how the leadership makes you feel. At some places you may not be making the highest salary, but you stay because the leadership shows appreciation for you and your work. That is the type of place I have enjoyed working at. For a long time, Oracle has been only about the money, and the management has been just a necessary evil to deal with. But, with the money now disappearing, there is no longer any reason to work there. Oracle is striking out on all counts.

Thank you professor.

LOL

and not mentioning the fact that this is freeking Oracle, so who really gives a f**k? In the history of the company there has never been good leadership. For crying out loud, Oracle was founded by a sociopathic narcissist and the same guy is still running the show. I.e., this isn't some clinical MBA case study where knowledge of good management/leadership practices is going to make an iota of difference...

When you are called to lead, you are called to serve, and you must be willing to place the needs of others above your own. When you are called a leader, you must ensure that your people are inspired and motivated every day to make a difference. That's what we call leadership, and that's what real leaders do.
