If AT&T doesn’t offer a substantial relocation package, don’t quit. Take a plane & move into the building they demanded you to report to. If they ask you to leave then sleep in the parking lot. I’m sure the company will fire you but wow headlines that would make. You may smell, look like a homeless person but that’s the image they created.

I’ll grant you this. It’s 40 hours and that’s it. I’ll be living that purpose. Forget me even thinking about attempting to come in when there is inclement weather. If there is an active weather warning when I start to head in I’ll be staying put until it’s clear. Safety first. Rate me low so I can go. My days of loyalty and giving a damn are over. Who’s with me?

Even is the '80s, management employees would get phone calls from their bosses on a Friday afternoons telling them, "Your job is now in (name of distant state) on Monday morning - if you still want a job!" No relo. No plane tickets. No warning. Some would go. Some just emptied thier desk into a box.
many have often slept at their desk after working past midnight. This avoids a 2 hour round trip and only a few hours of sleep. The health club sold punch cards for 10-one day visits. This allowed for a morning shower. Based on needs of company, how about needs of employee; add a sleeping room or allow willing emps to stay at desk. Plenty are asleep during the day.
Looks like AT&T is in some very serious financial dire straits and the only way it knows how to get out of it somewhat unscathed is by phucking over its employees in a huge way! Who ever master minded this debacle will have to face the ultimate Karma cuz it's a b1tch!
Years ago, when we were known as The Phone Company, they had generous relocation packages, including buying your house if it didn’t sell quick enough and they wanted you bad enough. Employees were valued, boy how times have changed.
Another serious note: I'm considering couch-surfing with relatives or bunking up in a shared AirBNB for a couple months, just so the lot of us can be "more productive" messing up the financials for John, Pascal, and Jeremy. (Don't think McElfresh much cares, he's so silent these days). Lots of driving r/t to Texas every week, but would be worth it to spoil a quarter.
After one quarter of that adventure, time for a new job where I'm appreciated.
On a serious note, most people who are not offered relocation packages because they are no longer necessary at the company will have options outside the company and can lead productive lives without distracting animosity (or loss of hygiene).
