Is there a chance leadership would reverse this RTO decision? With the morale low and stock price sinking many are hoping for a change of heart

"Is there a chance leadership would reverse this RTO decision?"

Yes.

1 year after people quit or relocate, they'll do the reverse and relocate the remaining back.

Well, could the titanic have been saved when 55% of it was already underwater? No way this ship going to stay afloat with the headcount costs it has and debt it can't escape. $100 billion in id--tic bets flushed, burned up, gone for good. $157 billion in debt due to lots of deep pockets who don't take maybe for an answer. Wall Street demands are in charge here now. This company's leadership assured such when they acted like financial and strategic clowns for past 14 years. Randy show was beyond words. Stinky willing now to throw his own mother out the window to save himself. This leadership running scared now, as they should. I'm surprised they were smart enough to figure out even that basic need.

I got that survey, and I think it was sent to everyone who virtually attended the rally this week. I only signed into the rally for a minute before signing off, but I guess I was still counted.

Nope. Not a chance. RTO is a layoff. They’re choosing to lay people off at certain locations.

This senior management team actually believes that returning to the office will be part of the fix to help elevate this company in the industry! So, NO, you will not see a reversal of their decision anytime soon, unfortunately!

@ale+1mNC64Pk "No they don't"...

Not this year, no, but this leadership team loves to project into the mid-future, like "this time next year," with rosy projections that just need a little time to come to fruition. "Nevermind this dumpster fire right now, the stars are aligned for a great 2024."

Look at our streaming portfolio with for example, how we've taken on Netflix and restored the HBO brand to greatness. And how about those DirectTV subs? Not climbing as fast as we would like--in fact, declining a bit--but just you wait a year and see where we are! Don't forget how we cleaned up on spectrum and put T-Mobile back in their 3G place.

What's that? You beg to differ?

I'd love to stay but have a corporate jet to catch.

It will get ugly before it gets better. But time is running up.

It's possible, I suppose. I have a feeling that the reason they didn't just announce who goes where right away, but kind of gave a warning, and keep pushing the idea while still keeping it kind of vague (lack of details), may be because they're trying to see the reaction, the sentiment... get an idea of how many will move, how many will leave, how many severance packages they might need to pay and so on. They're giving themselves some time to evaluate. Personally, though, at this point, I'm just hoping to be able to get that severance as soon as possible and move on to something better.

Yeah, RTO is far less concerning than the relocation issues IMO. Already went back to the office about as soon as possible. No one is there and can get lots of work done. They've been talking about RTO for months, but few were actually doing it.

Live 10 miles from work, and the mortgage is about 2% and under 6-digit balance. I would drive my happy @ss to work every day not to have to move out of state or halfway across the country on my own dime.

They want low morale. If there’s one thing this company hates, it’s knowing that one of their employees somewhere may actually like their job.

The communication that RTO policy is retracted would only follow an email stating Stankey is out.

They won’t back off now. They believe that will show weakness and leadership will not allow the workforce to control business decisions.

They would have EVEN less credibility if they reversed course.

Only new leadership could change this decision.

I fully expect them to walk this back based on the absolute disaster this has caused. But don’t expect a communication on it - it will quickly fall to a “manager discretion” exercise where many will get an exception and it will disappear into ATT land where all the other telework restriction initiatives went to die.

"as they represent a tantalizing chunk of expense that could make the FCF look less horrible at Q2 or Q3 results time."

No, they don't.

Getting people off payroll by year end, possibly/likely with severance and other costs for many of them, will not do anything for 2023 numbers. In fact it will hurt them. If 5000 people leave, it will likely cost 75-100k each with severance, so that comes to something in the 100s of millions in additional costs. They can spin that as a one time charge, but it's still money out the door.

And getting rid of TWs does nothing to save on office leases either.

The teleworkers were written off at the outset, as they represent a tantalizing chunk of expense that could make the FCF look less horrible at Q2 or Q3 results time.

To the surprise of leadership, this is having an effect on FTOs who have to work with remotes and realize a lot of talent and company know-how will be disappearing, and soon.

Of course that would be demorializing, ya big dummy! Is that what we're paying you $30,000,000 per year for?

Some lackey decided it would be good to quantify the discontent, along the lines of "if you can measure it you can manage it." Hah hah hah, hah hah, hah!

They are not going to reverse the RTO decision. They will push down the enforcement to the L3/L2 managers and give some latitude in exceptions based on "Needs of the Business". Latitude might look like - Employee was up 1/2 the night on a production issue or worked all weekend on a release, so they could justify not having them in the office the next morning in those cases or granting com some comp time for the weekend work. If there is no latitude or for needs of the business, I think the support is going to suffer even more. Someone may not pick up that call until they are in the office and guess who will get called - the manager. I can tell you in some teams, this is an occurrence several times a week. Before someone says yeah, offshore's responsibility they will take care of it. It should be, but inevitably they have to call someone off hours because they can't handle it and it is usually an employee.

The big issue is the relocation mandate for folks not in a Hub location(employees who do have offices in their current location). They may shift timelines, there may be a few more cases approved for virtual work, but I doubt they will reverse it.

Something is going on. A survey was sent out to select employees asking how they feel about the email from John on How and where we work. One of the questions asked how much a person agrees or disagrees with statements such as "I have a clear understanding of our renewed purpose". If they didn't care, then why even send out that type survey and then to only select employees. I don't know WHY the survey was sent out, but I feel that SOMEONE knows they screwed up big time with this Sh!+ storm they created
