Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Dallas Hub

I am a Project Manager in California, and was told today that my Hub is Dallas Texas.

Anyone else been given their Hub city?

It could be worse. You could be sent to Florida, which is Texas without the charm or compassion.

I highly recommend that you NOT listen to the people tell you ignore everything and make them fire you. That’s just stupid. Assuming you have a family or a general need for income, you should plot out a path that ensures you aren’t left with the carpet pulled out from under you.

Think carefully before making decisions. Texas has permitless open carry g-n law. It ranked 2nd among states with the most mass shootings. I wouldn't feel safe working in an overcrowded office building full of employees filled with resentment to their supreme leaders.

From CA, will you also take a pay cut if moving to Dallas? The cost of living is much lower in Texas.

Dallas?

Force them to fire you, because moving to Dallas is bad enough, but moving there only to get laid off in a year means that not only are you in Dallas, but now you're also unemployed in a state that doesn't take care of their poor.

It sounds like there is no relocation, which is total bs. Did they specify whether or not you would get severance if you decided not to report to Dallas?

Points of clarification: it's not nessisarily Dallas AND Atlanta. it could be one or the other picked for your role. And just because a role moved their doesn't mean its for you. Force reductions are happening simultaniously in waves. So just because your leader announces their hub location, you shall not assume you can just move and report on a future date (which could actually be in 2024).

Dallas blows.

Strip Malls, Toll Roads, and Hail Storms.

It's just a he-l hole of ever-expanding concrete and cars. Cheap houses with studs placed too far apart.

I feel for everyone impacted, but especially those who have been in their location all along and are being told to uproot their families.

I've talked to several former co-workers in the Chicago suburbs(worked in Hoffman Estates). Most are not going to move. I've advised them to update their resumes now (offered to review), get familiar with interviewing formats used at other companies and start applying. Most of the people I know haven't interviewed for anything in over 10 years at least. The job market in some sectors has cooled a bit (like Tech, but not Tech roles in non-tech companies) and it will take longer to find something than last year.

If you are not going to move and not ready to retire, don't wait to start moving on finding other employment in hopes that this is all a bad dream and they won't follow through as has been stated in other threads.

For anyone not impacted now, it would be advisable to start preparing financially and if needed, assess your skills and look to see if there are gaps when looking at similar jobs at other companies and start training accordingly if possible. Like other posters have mentioned things will just get worse and there is no job safety.

You will uproot and move your family at your own cost and be thankful and gracious you still have a job or go find work elsewhere.

We all clearly understand the game. Final goal for tech org is to have Dallas and Atlanta in US and India open for business. All other locations will not matter.

“ does not answer my question? I want to know how OP got the notification.”

Stanley called him personally.

Who cares who told him. The OP is obviously serious about the conversation he had, if you haven’t had the conversation then it doesn’t matter.

They have been pretty clear that you will go into the location where the work is being done -- not necessarily the location geographically closest to where you live.

“ How come Dallas ? There are 2 hubs in CA: San Ramon and Los Angeles.“

How is it that folks are still not understanding that where you reside today has zero, zip, zilch, nada factor in what hub you might be assigned to?

Just goes to show us all how really screwed up ATT really is! management once again is making the irrational and unjustified decisions to change the company around! Sounds like they're centralizing their people so it will make a sale of the various business units easier for the potential buyer!

Let me make it less cryptic:

As the employee you DO NOT get to choose the hub you work in, you will be assigned a hub. Also inside that hub city you will be assigned a particular building.

Just because you live in the same state as a “hub” it does not mean that is YOUR hub.

This is very cryptic message. Who told you Dallas is your hub? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps you don't realize why this is being done in the way it is. It is a no muss no fuss way to push people out of the company.

Enjoy selling your house and your 2.5% mortgage and buying a new house with a 7%+ mortgage. No prop 13 in Texas, either.
Better think long and hard if any of this makes sense to do.
The new normal- no good options. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, but the screwing of responsible people continues unabated. Brought to you courtesy of the unrepentant socios and psychos running western civ into the abyss.

The end game will only have 2 locations, Dallas and Atlanta. All the other 7 locations will be phased out over the next 3 years. This only impacts those that are not supporting a Market/Customer Facing.

Proximity to one of the 7 HUBs doesn’t mean you get to go there. If your job is considered national and you don’t have local customer facing duties - you are either Atlanta or Dallas.

I’m hoping I’ll get my HUB assignment by fax or pager since that’s the era we are living in.
