Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

6/15/2033

June 15th will be a joyous day of celebration for some CWA workers at Leg T who will be offered the VTP. Those of us with over 31 years will get 104 weeks pay + any of our 5 weeks vacation remaining. This will be a satisfying way to leave the company.

"What’s even better is when the offer VTP to some employee over 70 with 50 years of service that has been openly begging for this offer, and then they decide they aren’t ready to go when it comes and some 25 year old is surplused in their place."

I've had this happen twice where I was surplused. Then a couple years, had one of them on the phone, bitvhing because they are not getting any VTPs. Told him to F-off.

AT&T will just sell off the 2000 or so Legacy T union employees and let the new company decide if they want to “honor” the agreement.

It is true and only for union employees, the only offer for management will be a boot in their a-s and a email saying they have “chosen to pursue other career options “ as they are escorted out of buildings along with no severance no insurance

I'm ready to go, but still not confident that the company will be offering any VTP to the most senior technicians that are willing to accept it. I believe the company's rationale is that they would rather wait it out for the eligible personnel to leave on their own, retire, than to pay them 2 years severance. Even though the money is a mere drop in the bucket for T, they see this differently and will not be offering a VTP anytime soon. Just my 2 cents!

Still smiling, not complaining, dreaming of the VTP which inevitably will happen per contract, not the fantasy 5 + 5 but just the VTP and I'm 100% certain to accept so no younger workers are involuntary laid off. Also smiling when others apply logic and common sense into reasons why the company won't offer VTP because many of us have been around here long enough to know that logic and common sense do not go into this company's decision making processes. And some of us know our work group is targeted and slated for surplus sooner or later and most likely sooner. Regardless, we're working well while enjoying one foot out the door... knowingly of the strong likelihood of an upcoming two year paid vacation and then turning on the pension, 401k and social security. It's been a good ride and I'm still smiling.

Better to keep your mouth shut and be assumed to be a fool than to open it and prove that you are.

Why don’t you union guys start going on strike against n and forcing change instead of whining about how cr-ppy it is here and how glad you will be getting out ?

I'm ready to go, just show me the VTP! This company is in such turmoil, it's no longer a great place to work! I've lost my passion for the work I do, just don't care anymore because the company no longer cares! It's time, let's get this done!
