When I first started going back in my floor was largely empty and it was easy for my team to sit near other. Now more people are coming in and cubes are filling up. Ok fine just look for another. But the problem is some people are leaving stuff in the cubes to basically claim them. Cube I typically sit in (if it’s empty) had somebody in it. She noted that I often sit there (yeah if it’s empty) and I minded. I said I’d the cube is empty it’s up for grabs. But she’s leaving her stuff in it. Some people have also been hogging offices. So I’m basically saying F it. I’ll grab an office or any cube ther doesn’t have anybody in it when I show up.

@ahv+1mLAaYkw My campus (Chandler) has lockers. So unless you have something huge, there's no reason to leave your stuff in a cube you're looking to "claim". I have an extra keyboard and coffee cup I put in a locker. Somebody making an excuse that they're just going to leave their sh*t b/c they don't want to take it home is BS.
And to somebody else's point-- you leave your stuff, I show up and you're not there, your stuff gets moved. Simple as that.
The gripe here is we went away from assigned cubes. If you expect me to be in, I shouldn't have to go hunt for a cube and then find the previous occupant screwed something up, moved stuff around, etc. Open seating was sold as a way to be flexible b/c people were often working remote and didn't need an assigned cube. But that's changed, we're expected to be in at least 3 days week for many groups.
Somebody who manages a section of open seating laid down the law recently and told all those decked to that area that open us open and you can’t claim cubes and stop leaving your sh-t behind. So there is some reasonableness there.
But for you of anybody I’d say go out of your way to relocate the leave-behinds on all cubes into a single pile in the shiftiest. I’ve.

Let's just say, first to arrive, first to leave, has its benes.
The C suite should listen to your advice and stop wasting everyone's time/money with RTO tracking and other BS. There's literally no upside or valid business case and it costs a hideous amount of money.
Random gripes:
- not enough offices, so basically you have to get there at 7:30 if you want one and it’s the same people going into the same offices. Many of them assigned to a different office location…
- the person who taped up a sign on a focus room instructing you not to remove as it’s just permanently reserved for someone. No, that’s not how this first come first served cr-p works.
- the broken technology equipment. I put in a request with CPG to address some issues in a shared space. They told me that’s not their job and that I should put in a technology ticket. Um, I do have actual work to do and thought I was being helpful to all of us by reporting the issue. If it’s shared equipment, it’s for CPG to handle.
- the douches who park their huge suv in the spaces marked for low emissions vehicles.
- the open kitchens that allow everyone in the floor to smell the cacophony of fish smells during lunch
All of this so I can meet with folks on teams since no one I work with lives in this city.
Yep, it sucks. All of it.
I heard the C Suite just strolls into Hudson Yards and just grabs any old office they feel like. If they can do you can as well
Before the pandemic they had a site where rooms and books could be booked, interfaced through outlook meetings. It’s strange they didn’t bring that back and it’s all just a free-for-all now
RTO whiners on this site are the worst. So many more pressing and important things to be concerned about.
Complaining is often seen as a negative thing, but it can actually be healthy in moderation. When we complain, we are able to express our negative emotions in a safe and constructive way. @osl+1mLAaYkw A sweater? You got worked up enough to post that someone was trying to “claim” a seat by hanging a sweater on the back of a chair. Never in the history of mankind has there been anyone that forgot an article of clothing on a chair back in a school, business, restaurant or family cookout.
This is text book weak leadership at the local level and reg employees trying to flex on eachother.
Just move it all or slide it out of the way if it’s in your way or leave your isht there too. F it. If I had anything to leave I’d do it too. Not to claim space but to just not care and leave my junk like a coffee cup.
This is why it’s great to go in on Friday’s. No one else is there so it gives you an opportunity to rearrange desks and stuff laying around.
Had someone leave their crapin an office. They barged in the office to reclaim something they left in the office in a drawer while on a video call. Had I not been shell-shocked by their rudeness I would have went off on them and their manager would have gotten an earful. My consolation prize was when I left, I made sure to lock all the drawers and put the key in an office on the other side of the floor. Karma baby.
Encountered this situation as well. Someone left their sweater on the chair probably to claim it. By 9:00 AM no one showed up. I removed the sweater and put it on top of the lockers outside. The sweater as gone the next day and it never happened again.
Which office is this?
Come in early and throw her sh-t in the trash and then move on. She might get the hint or not.
