Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Let's put this RTO policy aside for now.

Let's focus on our jobs. I don't know about you but I'm sick of hearing about it.
Let Stankey focus on the RTO policy, let's get back to running this business. Nothing you or I can do to change the trajectory of the company.

The leadership has had enough time to make and release a RTO so employees could plan their lives

The way this is being done doesn't give people much time to execute it's putting a lot of pressure on families who did not know this was coming in the summer so now we've got a bunch of parents trying to figure all that out this is so hard hard on our families.

You go focus on your job. People who aren't corporate bots will focus on their life and family and how best to mitigate the impact of yet another bad executive decision.

Dude you want employees to ignore what was sent and go back to work pretending nothing happen? And let Stanley do whatever he does the best meaning ruining the company. Keep in mind the guy has terrible track of record. People hate working here. Customers and shareholders also hate T. This is Stanley’s legacy.

The memo about RTO was badly executed. But what do you expect from Stinkey. He never made any good. Whatever he touches became a fiasko. He has long record of bad decisions that cost company billions.

Where are all the bootlickers now? Always willing and able to defend Stankey and BOD to the ends of the earth.
Come out, come out, wherever you are!
It's enough to make you sick.

“Pretty sure this will seal the deal on my retirement decision. Didn't want to retire this early. Been remote for almost 25 years & no office is going to improve my work ethic, just drag it down.”

You are the primary target for the RTO initiative! You have become too complacent and are likely too set in your ways to embrace corporate initiatives. You are clearly focused on personal interests rather than corporate objectives designed to save this company.. Collaboration is the way forward.

OP you are out of touch with reality. Get a grip on what’s happening. The entire company has just been disrupted and your advice is to put on blinders, whistle a happy tune and get back to doing work? Are you serious?

"RTO is one thing, but being forced to move across the country and then reporting to that office with no chance of returning home is completely different."

This is exactly right. This is NOT about RTO. This is a new campaign to rid the company of thousands of employees. It's a desperate act. I don't think there is any future anymore at AT&T. While the company isn't going away, it is morphing into something unrecognizable, and for the immediate future, there is no path forward for employees that I can see. I would recommend that people start analyzing their options and get some plans in place, if they haven't already. If a person does get a relocation opportunity, there is a high likelihood that the position won't be stable. Unless someone really wants to move to that location anyway, it's a very risky move. Of course, staying put is as well, with respect to an AT&T future. But that's because there is no AT&T future for most of us, so no point in uprooting, and going through all of that expense, time, and additional stress.

When we’ve had surpluses before, you still had a chance of returning home if an opening came up. There’s no chance of that now, and there’s also a pretty good chance that even if you move with the job, you will probably get the axe soon thereafter. I would guess the company is counting on a certain percentage of people will quit instead of moving. If everyone moves, you know half of those people will be off payroll in another few months.

With this perpetual hiring freeze going on, there’s also no chance of advancing your career even if you do move and keep your position. T is planning on being understaffed indefinitely, so you’ll just be working twice as hard with a lot more expenses(higher mortgages, gas, moving costs) as long as you work for them.
