Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Displacement Tuesday

Another wave of layoffs will hit technology on Tuesday. Survivors will get to attend TKs town hall on Thursday. I expect that will be my last day.

Op here with an update. Still have a job and nobody in my group was displaced. I panicked when my boss asked for the skill sets of myself (and three other US based FTs) along with some EGS folks I didn’t know. That request along with the timing of TK’s town hall was (and still is) highly sus. Also. This isn’t the last Tuesday of the month. Next week is

Everything is going to India. Charlie and the minions need to move to India since they love that place.

The narrative about quality of tech is lost on the fact that WF was never a good place to work in tech. If you keep people in the same roles year after year, mimimal pay increases and confusing performance ratings, something is going to suffer. Add to that thriving B and below employees, nothing left to do but to play along with the status quo and either hope for layoffs or job change.

For the time being, every worker gets a free pass. It simply isn't any worker's fault for anything.

Cloud and India is the solution. Too bad India is aligned with Russia.

Tech is a mess because everything is in transition. Every team has to look at cloud solutions to existing products.

There is a lot of interdependence of tech teams. So if I want to get something done, I have to rely on another team. With all the product shift to the cloud, we have on prem tech in use and cloud in development. Due to time constraints I'm forced to integrate with the on prem solutions and then shortly after redo my work to integrate with the new cloud solution.

So pretty much everything I'm working on, I have to do it twice. There is no, can this wait 4-8 weeks until this other team has their cloud solution in prod?

It's rush, redo, rush, redo over and over again.

It’s a bait and switch or “lift and shift” from US jobs to India. Look at the job postings. (Until they start to hide that from us also!)

Technology, Risk,. Analytics.

Goals are involved and Directors need to meet that. WF doesn’t care or want the American worker anymore.

Since Wells Fargo laid off thousands of workers who is tech helping?

@pbj+1mHRA3iD There could be several reasons. At the root though it is because Tech teams are now left with a higher dead wood body count. We have the head count to do work but those who still perform cannot literally do everything. Those who have capacity to take on work are either those B Team folks that aren’t very good and certainly don’t have or want to be what it takes to be a high achiever anywhere (not just wells) or defeated employees who don’t care. I have some B listers on my team and I hope atleast one gets cut, ideally so we can back fill but at a minimum his minor amount of work is redistributed and they are no longer a liability.

The ORG as a whole still wants to cut FTE’s, cut Remotes and institute it’s location policy so there is all of that as well. Basically every Tech colleague I’ve worked with here was remote until the Location Strategy was defined back in 2019 and the March into office began.

Additionally many app teams have zero forethought and wait for something to become urgent before reaching out. Energy is wasted by Tech pushing back and making the customer follow the appropriate processes when all they want to do is toss a garbage fire on someone else’s lap and walk away.

Tech keeps telling us they don’t have capacity. Whats the reason for tech layoffs when there is so much work to do?

OP...oooooh, how I wish you could provide more intel!! will it be middle mgrs that have 6 directs? will it be those that are 100% remote that live within 10 miles of WF admin site?
But, does WF layoff on a payday week?
