It’s a desperate move to achieve their insane 2023 free cash flow targets. If a corp needs to raise $2B fcf in a very short term, there’s only one way to do it - cut back staff. It’s a corporate restructure couched as RTO and it’s a slimy move to pitch it as collaboration and values. You should’ve heard the voices on our team call where folks in Colorado and Louisiana slowly digested that they’re being laid off. The gentle crackle and reserved tone descending on 6 genuine words of astonishment “so this means I’m laid off?” Our boss was smart enough not to say “yes” but we all know what it means. ATT be like ‘bye felicia!” to some of my dearest coworkers. How does Stanky John continue to have his job? Screwed up the TMO deal, face planted on Warner, tripped over DTV, and now this? The board really needs to can this dude asap he wastes BILLIONS repeatedly. Clowns love to surround themselves with a circus because that’s where they feel most at home and we’ll I guess he’s aced that one. Bravo di----t.

Deep down inside, people don't want to leave. They have it good here and they know it. Complaining is just something to do to get attention.
I don't get why people stay at cesspool att. the pension is gone, no really retirement benefits, and the employee benefits are average at best. The pay may be in the high average range but yet people stay to get abused. A lot better companies out there to work for and a lot better technology companies if you consider att a technology company.

Read the severance policy..
"Eligible employees who are selected for involuntary termination, including as a direct result of force surplus, technological, operational, organizational and/or structural changes affecting the employees of a participating company, or special eligibility for certain of such eligible employees to receive a cash payment and eligibility for certain post-employment life insurance and health benefits."
If you leave when a job is offered to you, Even if that job is not in your city or state, then that means you quit, and you will not get the severance...
Return to office or resignation accepted.
If they change your work location YOU DO GET SEVERANCE. It literally says that in the FAQ and the severance policy. DO NOT RESIGN AND YOU GET SEVERANCE

OP they are not being laid off, that implies severance pay. If you do not relocate you are essentially saying you forfeit your job. Ie you’re quitting, not getting laid off. That being said, I can’t imagine anyone in those roles putting in any effort to do their job. Think of this transition time as your on-the-job severance. Use the time you’re here getting paid to find a new job.
Some of us may have missed the original post. I appreciate seeing it here and sorry about the clutter. A lot going on for a lot of people right now. I know I was busy trying to pick which hub I would move to (and get the decision in by end of day, which convinced me this is less about "collaboration" and more about driving off employees).
Our VP tossed the agenda and discussed what was known and not known. Then she stopped for questions. Dead silence for 30 seconds. "No one? "
No one.....29,30, 31...finally an office-based colleague with whom some of us have actually collaborated remotely (imagine that!) spoke up with some questions "i would ask I was remote and in this situation." Relo? "Generous, I read, but that's all I know." Severence? "Not clear at this moment."
This is not a repost and to be frank, I think the OP nailed it. And by the way the first comment was probably the weakest response I have seen from a corporate social media human bot in a long time. They are probably feeling the wave (tsunami) of dissatisfaction themselves.
