I see this popping up often in posts. Why? None of us did anything wrong. Every scandal related to the bank is a direct result of our leadership and the rest of the upper management. So why would any rank-and-file employees see working here as a reflection of them? We do our jobs. We do them well, unlike those on top. The shame is theirs, not ours.

When the CEO, the puerile 2 digit IQ middle managers, the offshoring, the scaled back "benefits" (read: 401K match change to Dec 31), the HUB strategy, and the RTO are all against you, you bet people are ashamed of working here. Add the PR and, well......even more so.
It wasn't always like this. Now the best work you can do only serves as an enabler for all the unethical shenanigans. Ruminate on that. So yes, Virginia you do have shared culpability. If you don't have some shame, I would question the depth of your values. It is after all dirty money. The logic and rationale "it is not my department, that is all above me" is self-serving "gas lighting".
The house, the car, my children's education, the food I put on the table-- everything is purchased with dirty dough. Yes, I am ashamed and my children wish I would quit, but I can't I have too much invested and retirement is on the horizon. So, I cruise boards like this and dream of what I might have been. My family loves me, but they don't respect my career choices. Makes for great conversation around the holiday table.
If you can, go do something better with your life, go make a difference if you can.
I am ashamed how they treat people. They treat their employees like sh&t. They treat their customers like sh&t. Waiting on the next big scandal. Criminals work and run this company.
Since I left whenever I share where I used to work, 100% of the time I hear how people hate the company, the service they received as clients, how it's well known the company treats it's employees poorly & how they moved all their money (& loans) away from WF. It never fails. Consistently.
I was in a store buying some (expensive) clothes. They listed the corp discounts as I was checking out & paying. I casually asked if WF was included in that list. The saleslady's demeanor totally changed. She said "WF...? Ugh. Ewww. You work for WF?". That's when I knew their reputation was too widespread.
It no longer looks good on a resume. Simple as that. If you continue to work for a company that is continually in the news for all the wrong reasons, your accomplishments at that company are mentally linked to that failure. Nobody wanted to know that someone was a brilliant accountant at Enron when those former employees got their resumes out there. That’s the risk.
Embarrassed is an understatement. Humiliated appalled disgusted is more the right wording!
Quit WF a few years ago, just checking in.
One of the reasons I quit was the neverending threat of layoffs, but the crimes kept me up at night.
No, I never created a fake account or foreclosed on a vet, but my work supported a company that did those things and thousands more.
Doesn't matter what you think you do at WF, if you're surrounded by clowns walking down the street, you're in a clown parade.
Everyone e I know hates Wells Fargo. Corrupt. Deceitful. Liars. Charlie and the CEO should all be in prison. What a bunch of thief’s. Yes we are all embarrassed that we work for a company that f$cks over their employees and customers. Who could care less about their employees. Please fire Charlie and the suits.

We are embarrassed because we work for a corrupt company with a corrupt CEO.
For a tech worker, if ashamed is the same as being overly self conscious, it is one of many negative feelings shared. I think it is healthy and means we are objectively aware of:
- Double standards (money generating side abuses tech and with much less scrutiny)
- Skillset (lack of opportunities within bank to learn and grow)
- Reputation (tech vendors know WF is a bear)

I’m embarrassed because it’s a voluntary business relationship that encompasses 1/3 of my day for a company that is ethically bankrupt.
I’m embarrassed because I and many many of my peers have agreed to or been engaged in transferring US work to India and Philippines. When I did this years ago, I felt pressured, caved and convinced myself that you have to make tough financial decisions to stay alive as a manager in the corporate world. And what was supposed to be limited to a few mind numbing and time draining tasks shipped overseas has now turned into targets of 1/3 of the entire employee base in decision making and oversight roles.
So yes, I’m embarrassed. And ashamed. I cannot wait for the day I can walk away and not look back.
I see your point. I think employees wish they would be/would have been more aggressive in pursuing work at a company who isn’t routinely F’ing over their customers, their employees and their shareholders. It is similar to not wanting to say you worked at Madoff back in the day. People are going to assume you must be part of the illegal activities if you make a conscious decision to continue to earn your paycheck by supporting a scandal ridden company.
People have to do what they have to do to support themselves and their families, so….???

Because most people here aren't very confident and just bitter in general. It's all in how you present and deliver the info. Also, a lot of people give too many people credit in thinking they know all the ins and outs of the company.
Because people are f’n loony tunes! No matter where i worked if i don’t know the person well then i work in “whatever sector they are in”. Say you work for hospital and “they ki-led my aunt with covid” and all of sudden you have someone screaming at you. Say you work for a bank and “they stoled my grandmoms house from her” and again they start screaming at you. Work for Tesla and then some Trump fan wanting to kick your a-s for being too lib. Work for g-n company and Libs wanna shake their fists at you for ki-ling kids in schools.
So no, i only work “in manufacturing” or “in healthcare” etc
I think some of us know that the company is arbitrarily laying off qualified employees and shipping the jobs overseas while pressing RTO for a few. That the controls in place are incredibly burdensome and made by people who don’t know the business. And we aren’t trying to be competitive. So I am ashamed of the direction we are headed in.
However, for me, I need the medical. So I keep my head down and try to get my work done. I also say I work at a bank and don’t volunteer more information.
I just say "a bank" when people ask me.

It pays the bills and I really like my job function, but hate (yes, hate) all levels of our management. I will hang in for a couple of years until retirement. if I'm lucky I'll get a severance package.
