Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Too much focus on one group of people at the bank.. excluding others

There is constant bombardment of messaging about our teammates in India or onshore from India.

The bank prides itself as an inclusive place, but as Latino and Black, we feel excluded. In many offices there is lack of diversity due to just being all folks from India. Plano office is overwhelmed with lack of diversity.

D&I should be inclusive hiring of a wide variety of talent and not just from one specific race...

I can't say I'm proud to work here while feeling excluded. I've started looking for more inclusive work places.

I know many are sensitive to this topic, but we should openly discuss this and have an honest and respectful conversation about it.

I've worked in IT for 28 years with all groups of people and never had an issue with anyone. But I now find myself in the minority of a large data team after a reorg a few years ago where our new managers only promote one race to senior positions, surrounding themselves with their groupthink yes buddies that agree with everything they say. There's no more leadership or direction and just a bunch of people rowing their own way.

My D&I colleagues are the absolute worst workers on the team. If they weren't D&I I believe my manger would feel more comfortable putting them on an improvement plan, alas they treat them with kid gloves. Be careful what you wish for op, you might find yourself at an org that isn't afraid of D&I employees.

The Tech H1Bs do not get paid less. They make just as much and more than American workers. The off-shore hiring bonanza has been going strong for 15+ years, while Americans of all colors get left behind. This is especially true if the hiring Manager is of foreign descent (yes, that's racist hiring policy masked as inclusion). Tech could've been the answer to lifting-up many American minority communities a long time ago. As we now know, many of the good-paying tech jobs do not/should not need a College degree, and could have been satisfied by an entry-level Trade/Cert training curriculum. Instead, we demanded advanced degrees, and used the honor-system to allow phony credentials from abroad. The tech bo-m(s) could have meant so much more to ALL parts of America. Such a shame.

The Indian people are way better than white people. They are hard workers and don't try to sc--w you behind your back. They are also willing to go above and behind to get the job done.

Bofa is able to deliver mobile apps, large scale solutions serving hundreds of millions of customers over hundred years. They must be doing something right! There is micro and macro view of your situation. If your team micro view is bad leave, but you know Bank is positioned here to stay another four hundred years , primarily because they do focus on getting a larger return and have been succesful over hundred years and it wont change now. That said, I did leave bofa for the D&I reason. I was feeling left out as I was not getting pay hikes similar to these indians. Ultimately, managers build successful teams and choose who they hire. if your initiatives fail you go to the woodshed.

@2aar+1mGfhGgG - THIS! BofA has way overengineered this. I'll take meritocracy every day vs their fake-o D&I charade. Sick of them cramming their white privilege guilt down on me. Just pay me and let me do my f---ing job.

D&I is illegal, unconstitutional, and should be outlawed. D&I is nothing more than racism and discrimination packaged and sold a different way. How about judging the content of their character and not the color of their skin? How about meritocracy?

You mention both Latino and Black but oddly one of the two is underrepresented at the Bank and the other is over-represented. I think the crux is that the Bank has created an atmosphere were everyone feels excluded regardless of representation.

I know they're not all making less. In fact, many in my area are better paid partly based on being recent hires. Maybe but across the board, but beat out a good chunk of non Indians in my org.

There, you said it. It's wrong to hire people from one country and it's even worse to pay them less than the others. It's two crimes packaged in one action. Who do you blame? The workers who got hired or the bank that hired them and paying them less than the others?

As a hiring manager, a major firm from abroad said their schools were much better than American schools so his people are better candidates (True story). Asked him to leave my office. when interviewing you ask the typical tech questions, candidates are well rehearsed so they answer. Then I say “I see you have a masters in engineering” so I have a few canned engineering theory questions ready and they fail every time. So beware of the stock resumes. Been to Plano at lunch time so I get it.

There are a ton of tech jobs with overall unemployment in tech < 3%. I agree that you can get a better job at another company. In general I see lot of individual contributors in plano are H1B because they came in as inhouse short term tech resources and some manager recommended they be converted to full time employees. Ton of managers are white, black, brown, women etc, so overall it is abt hiring efficiently.

Told you. They brought in a ton of H1B from India several years ago. Lunchtime they all come out. Have no idea where they hide the rest of the day. And they got the best part of the site renovation.
The plan is to turn Plano into a tech center. That’s been in the works for years. That’s why the shared desk.
Get your popcorn and watch the show.

Master engineering degree from no-name India night school = American high school graduate or GED. If these workers were of decent engineering caliber, they would not be wasting time at BOA.

Those folks from India make less than you for the same job. Bank of America keeps its costs down by leveraging deeply discounted indian employees. Your Indian colleagues have masters engineering degrees. would you say no to a highly educated person taking less money there by contributing to the company profits?
