Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Do no be fooled…

RTO and consolidation of employees has SO little to do with optimizing collaboration to transform the business. It has EVERYTHING to do with forcing people to leave on their own to cut costs.

The C-Suite is NOT interested in negotiating employees’ wellbeing or what this means for crippling operations as our intellectual pool drains itself. They WANT people to leave.

"Collab zones 2.0". Absolutely. And like that, this will be delayed, fizzle and die off. In 6 months nobody will even remember it

It's already happening. Learned today that Network will have more than the "9 locations", that there is not adequate budget this year for the "generous relocation package" so reloc to Dallas or whatever isn't even a possibility. If for some reason you actually get a transfer notification, remember the phrase "constructive dismissal".

AT&T just wants fresh blood! They're going to do what Big Tech is already doing. After massive layoffs at big tech, they started hiring back personnel from overseas. already bringing in lower paid personnel to perform the jobs that T was paying big $$$ to have done by American workers! AND, it's totally legal for corporate America to do so! Between AI and off-shoring American jobs, the unemployment rate will be over 15% within the next 10 years or so, unfortunately! America is going to be in a sad state of affairs over the next 7-10 years! I'm glad I'll be retired by then!

RTO is Collaboration Zones 2.0

Just like its predecessor, this is the excuse they will utilize to layoff large numbers of folks, nothing more. The company won't know the damage that's been done until after the fact.

To those who say contractors will be used to backfill critical positions lost, I say you haven't seen the contractors we've been getting lately. Good luck with that.

This type of thinking is why I will take the lump sum retirement vs the annuity. I have zero faith this company will even exist in a decade.

The RTO communication has nothing at all to do with productivity and collaboration. That's the smoke screen BS. Working in these hubs benefits only some specialized Agile teams. The vast majority of the enterprise does not benefit in the least from these collaboration zones. This is all about 2 things and 2 things only. Reduce headcount and offload admin real estate. That is it. You're living in Disneyland and are woke as phuukk if you think it's about anything else.

Whoever wrote RTO is about consistent productivity is an ignorant FOOL!!!!
They’ve dismissed, made leave, and intimidated thousands of people over the past few years that have left.
He blames lack of people being in the office for the current state of the company ??
The office people didn’t pay T Mobile hundreds of millions of dollars in their failed takeover bid. Nor did they buy DIRECT TV and Warner Brothers. leadership did.
What about all the sales teams that were out of region last q4 that they ELIMINATED!!!!!!
Because why….they ‘were pulling out direct sales team from OOR footprints’.
Well…most of the Top 15 managers and reps belonged to OOR….so congratulations on being #1 or Top 15 in performance for the first 10 months of the year. YOUR FIRED!!!
Oh…ATT doesn’t fire anyone, it’s consolidation or re organization that impacts the jobs of thousands.
Does anyone realize the ATT shed over 20,000 employees last year yet NO ONE KNOWS THAT!!!! They know when Salesforce, Meta, Verizon and other companies let people go…yet NEVER ATT. Wonder how much that costs them to keep the numbers under wraps.
It’s all very sad to see what they have done for a once great company who had pride and respect , both internal and external.
If I’m wrong on any of this…feel free to chime in

if productivity declined, surplus the incompetent manager for not managing. I work harder to avoid the 1 hour commute and have time to do the wash (5 min load + 5 min to dryer)
