Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Enough is enough

I'm exhausted from always having to listen about agile methodologies. It feels like my manager's vocabulary has shrunk down to only that one word. Everywhere I turn, there's talk of agile this and agile that. Honestly, I'm getting sick of it. It feels like we're on a never-ending loop of agile discussions, and I'm desperate for some variety in our conversations.

More garbage, much like HOSS [Cartwright] - valueless pontifications without substance.

Whilst I worked at the sh1tstain company that was Funnysmell I found it hard to do any actual work because of the constant bureaucracy and admin. Pointless meetings, relentless forms, surveys, training videos, hopeless IT and HR then as soon as I had a break it was a daily report of what I had done, what I was doing now and what I planned to do in the future! F@ck off you ridiculous @rse wipe of a company.

Another bogus methodology buzzword, the Emperor's New Clothes. Like the UML bloatware that industry abandoned years ago.

"Agile" itself is a joke and sham. It is nothing more than a social engineering stratagem designed to shame people into working harder by forcing them into daily meetings to provide updates on progress. With the majority of Agile teams offshore, the feeble statement "We will try to get this done by tomorrow" actually means in North American-speak that "There's not a chance in h-ll that this will get done even a week from now." And remember the slash-and-burn grifter "Agile Coaches"? When you asked the same procedural question to any two of them, you got diametrically opposed answers.

What makes the situation even more laughable is that HON leadership neither understands nor gives a wh-t about Agile methodology. The only acceptable tracking mechanism to them is the good old Gantt chart, showing progress (or carefully camouflaged lack thereof) in all its Technicolor waterfall glory. They'll oblige teams to commit to hopelessly unrealistic timelines and then excoriate the team for not meeting deadlines that never added up to begin with. They fail to realize that Agile is intended to anticipate and accommodate constant change and reprioritization, while the waterfall reports they insist upon are cast in stone and any deviation therefrom results in a Spanish Inquisition.

Leadership simply uses the Gantt tracking as a tool to express constant displeasure about the rate of progress, and thus as an excuse to eliminate or minimize rewards and recognition for team achievements, all the while laughing up their sleeves to themselves while collecting their bloated MIP bonuses thinking that their underlings are actually fooled and intimidated by this charade.

Agile is for software development and HON wants stakeholders to think it’s a software company, therefore it forces manufacturing businesses to pretend they’ve implemented agile. Are resources from each function actually dedicated to the process? Not even close. It’s a facade. It’s a joke. It’s classic HON.

How did agile suddenly come back up? I thought that died when we laid off all the crayon-on-the-walls "data scientists" they hired and fired in charlotte.

It's the flavor of the month (or year). You can bet when a new CEO or President comes in to your SBG, they'll have a new flavor. How about Functional Transformation, Continuous Improvement, TQM, Finance for non-financial employees?

You have to be agile when you’re on a burning platform. Hmmm. Maybe it was the heat from the energy from the lasers when we all have laser like focus that caused the platform to burn?

Agile merely means that we will be changing the specifications and requirements daily. You fail if you can't keep up. In other words, you will always fail.

Well, have studies the 737Max ? where two planes went down.

Perhaps agile is the root cause!

I don't believe in agile, it was developed by the internet software developer for mostly engaging folks on day to day basis to keep the pressure up to get the job done in few hours. Where quality has no value, only close task as soon as possible.

Its like when you have daily standup, when the project was running late.

Agile is not the best framework for mechanical system design that must deliver a fully integrated unit that must work out of the box. You know, like a jet engine.

It's better suited for things like websites that can be improved in iterations.

Agile is management speak for "we dont have enough money to finish the product... give me something to sell today"

We have a lot of agility when it comes to RIF-ing, not so much in software

Agile is not compatible with well designed structured software with solid requirements. I bet the FAA hates it…

welcome to agile. agile and all the associated things with it are never ending conversations in and of itself and about itself. if it was such an easy framework or methodology it would sort of be self explanatory...and you have apologists that say you're not doing it right. sorry its called it not mean to work in every industry and setting and its most likely a garbage solution to preventable problems.
