Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Legg true colors

Legg sure has drank the ATT leadership attitude koolaid. Some really insightful things he said during his townhall today: “John (and I) are fed up with people not coming into work”. In reference to zero women at Level 6 “I am not going to fire Jon Summers because he is a white guy”. Oh and don’t blame him for the diversity numbers because “it is all you guys doing the hiring”. Stankey, is that you in there?

There’s a lot more system worked being outsourced and many internal PMs developing systems directly in the business units outside Legg’s org. While he’s trying to reduce costs money and resources being spent in other groups that don’t have the background. Continued mismanagement.

IT has a PM issues. Usually equal amount of PM's to developers. The PM's are just leeches on the project. Plus if the original developers of the application are gone (laid off ) the new team does know jack about the application, which results in a bunch of CR's. ATT can not hire any smart people any more - they all go to Google, Facebook, etc.

Maybe outsourcing to India is cheaper but look at the large groups of teams that do nothing more than play middlemen from
The business units to the outsourcers. Very expensive project Managment.

“The office makes no sense. The teams I work with are in DC, NC, NJ, VA, FL, TX, MD, CA, and IL.”

This is a great setup. You can collaborate both with local employees and remote coworkers part of your team.

“Makes no sense how they seem to hate working remotely when we literally make a living providing the service that allows people to telecommute. Why wouldn’t we want to use our own product?”

Customers don’t cancel home internet when at work but when they shut the office down they cancel enterprise business ckts which are high margin for us.

Because we’re losing billions on business circuits because of wfh. You used a ckt at home and at work. Twice the money for att.

“ Jeremy is changing and is extremely uncomfortable with some of the stuff John Stankey is telling him to say. Especially the telecommuting stuff….. he looked like somebody had a g-n to his head and made him say those words.”

But yet he said the words. This was a choice.

Next round of layoffs will be based on number of times you go to office and how fast you can code in whatever language ABS is using this quarter. I like Jeremy a lot, he tells it as is but today he was different. I hope he doesn’t become like the rest of them.

My favorite was his comment about hiring more employees in India because the cost of labor is now too high in the US. Sc--w you US employees - you want to finally get paid what you're worth (company is making billions in profits year after year)? We'll go hire cheap labor in India. I know it's not a new concept and it's been done for years in the US but it was kind of offensive how blatant he was about it.

Wow. The offices are gross and there is no collaboration going on as is. People end up working less hours in the office. So they are sick of people working more hours and collaborating more with the virtual collaboration tools we have? Interesting take.
