Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why do you think you would be better off if more people got cut?

I'm curious what makes people think that many more should be cut. Any thoughts on that?
Maybe they think that their job would be safer or that this would be a better workplace if the company were to cut more people. Anyway, that sounds very arrogant to me.

"I’m doing the work of multiple employees because there have been so many cutbacks and/or not backfilling jobs."

The work is only as important as the number of people they assign it. No backfill means it's not important. Treat it accordingly.

Better if more micromanagers that have created a toxic work environment were shown the door. A lot of staff positions who constantly have to come up with unnecessary processes to justify their jobs need to be reduced. GPS program could go, waste of money. Power point presenters with useless data and non productive meetings

And this is precisely why they keep cutting. People keep accepting the workload and not taking a stand. If you're salary and working 50-60 hrs a week just to meet the needs of the dept, at your health's expense, then you're the problem.

"Agree with this wholeheartedly. Just took over 4 new areas due to the layoffs. Very ridiculous. Every-time I’m at capacity, T adds work."

So you've been "at capacity" multiple times but managed to pick up more? Either A) You weren't at capacity or B) You stopped doing things that didn't matter to make extra capacity.

Sometimes the pressure forces a reprioritization and that is not a bad thing if you think about it from a firm perspective.

Profitability. AT&T is not profitable right now. Wall Street is not happy and moved the stock to a neutral from a buy, because they do not see how AT&T will get to profitability when the phase out older, higher margin products to newer, lower margin products. Legacy products still make up 37% of all of AT&T revenue, so it means a lot of room for hair cutting to get back to better profitability.

"Maybe they think that their job would be safer or that this would be a better workplace if the company were to cut more people."
It has nothing to do with that. Your job is a microcosm of the overall company. so long as you are doing what is bringing the company profitability, you will keep the job AT&T has given you. You personalize it by saying "cutting people". They don't "cut people". They cut jobs that won't help the company stay in business. Keeping jobs that don't help the company stay in business is the quickest way to cutting all jobs- i.e. bankruptcy.
