Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

meeting invites being sent out already for first thing tomorrow

Just received my meeting invite for an "important discussion" tomorrow am...wonder what that could be...
As most have said on numerous comments before mine, if not now it will be later this year as layoffs won't stop anytime soon at att
we'll see how much benefits will cost now...

good luck to everyone else affected by the layoffs

Sorry to hear about your job loss, hopefully you will find employment soon. If you don’t already know, you might want to ask if you are marked to be rehired. The company does rehire former employees sometimes as consultants. Several years ago my co-worker got the call to return after being surplussed for 3 years. This year he is going to retire.

If possible would you start a new post and chronicle your exit process? I know this is a big ask due to your current situation but it would help your fellow coworkers and others later this year that are going to get the same call. Their exit always seems to be a messy process for a lot of people, details and options aren’t always clear.

as the originator of this thread, yes, i was let go this morning...
No reason given and i did not drag out the conversation.
no matter how you look at this, it still sucks that it happened not only to me but to everyone in ATT that has or is still living with poor/questionable Executive decisions..

Those of you who were surplussed like myself, i wish you best of luck in your future endeavors...Those of you who are "safe" for now, i hope it works out.

" There are whole groups eligible but maybe one or two when asked, would leave voluntarily to fill the head count reduction for that group"

The exact purpose of the "Interest In Leaving" process. It's not an informal shoot the breeze chat with your manager. It's an official process doc that had to be submitted a few weeks back if you were in an affected group.

And yes, by all accounts "interest in leaving" was quite low. If you think about it, most that fell into that category would have left to keep the health care subsidy by end of 2021, or at the end of 2022 to prevent their pension from eroding. Most everyone left here already made the decision that they would like to stay for a while, for whatever reason.

I suggest recording audio of the call.

It’s not just about knowing who is retirement eligible but who is considering or wants to go/retire. There are whole groups eligible but maybe one or two when asked, would leave voluntarily to fill the head count reduction for that group.

“ My manager was asking around in my group a few weeks ago, who would or is about to retire“

Your chain of command is well aware of who is retirement eligible, they don’t need to ask

You probably were selected because you are about to or can retire. My manager was asking around in my group a few weeks ago, who would or is about to retire. We assumed it was for layoff selection because he wouldn’t or couldn’t tell us. His answer, “It’s so we can assess headcount and if we need to prepare for any future changes”.

I’ve heard from my manager that the C&E is one of the orgs going to be hit this go around. Mainly engineering and some managers in Construction. Will know more by tomorrow (Friday).

AM

i think the Directors should do this but i guess they don't see it that way. My AM has to do the dirty work of upper management.

i believe separate calls or a call will be done later on Friday for those who are safe, but; its like at the end of the day... Why make people stress even more
