I have no other explanation for why people stay here hoping for a promotion which they persistently do not get, other than managers constantly giving them false promises. True?

I'm not saying that they are not full of $H!T on a regular basis. But, my boss (Senior Technical Manager at the time) told me the truth. "The only way you'll ever get another promotion is at a different company". I volunteered for the next RIF and got my parting gift.
I told my VP the exact same thing. He asked me what I wanted to do next and I replied "nothing, I'll just stay in this role". He said but you could be a director easily, why would you want to pass that up? I said I've been in Honeywell a while now (15 years) and I've seen this a hundred times. Directors work long hours, they travel, etc. I said I have zero interest in taking a role with 40% more work and stress for what, a 10? 15? Bump in pay? Forget it. I actually stifled a laugh when I told him they should find some MSU grad to hire as a director; the new college grads don't know any better.
I was offered a promotion last year, it involved twice the work and having to deal with yet even more clowns and a bigger circus. I kid you not, my director said unfortunately due to the current environment we can not offer you more pay however you will gain 'status' and that 'might' help you get a further promotion in the future!
I literally laughed in his face and said not a chance. He told me I should go away and think about it, again I said no. He was forced to take another option which turned out to be a absolute disaster LMFAO, it also got me riffed. Double win!!
Such a joke, where else could you get a promotion without a pay increase!

Honeywell specializes in false promises. Don't ever believe a word they say especially in regards to promotions.
