The constant fear of losing my job. It gets old, does anyone else feel the threat?

I got my first layoff scare in the early 90's.
Keep your skills updated and be willing to change. Either way, in or out, you'll be OK.
Been with T for almost 40 years and every single year since I started I had the constant threat of "layoff" hanging over my head! It never ends, it's a fact of ATT life as an employee!
Start training for your new job now. "Welcome to Walmart".

Just say; “Coffee, Tea or Me” you will move to the head of the line for a C-suite position.
When you are an underperforming malcontent, you always worry about your job. Wondering when they will be on to you.
Let it go and hope that if you are working hard and contributing, they will find a place for you if needed. If you are sitting around collecting a check for nothing, then you may should be concerned.
This isn’t going to be a popular post, but it’s the truth. If this is the only job you’ve had for the past 10+ years, I hate to tell you, but the threat of losing your job is a lot worse at other companies. We get a layoff maybe once a year or every couple years. Then it’s only 5-10% at most. Having worked at other places where most folks only get 1-3 years before they are laid off or so crispy burnt out and quit, you really don’t know just how bad it is out there. I’ve worked places where you hide or leave early Friday afternoons because if the boss calls you into the office of Friday afternoon they let you go. One mess up and cut, said something wrong, cut. This place is great compared to that. The job is stable, you rarely hear about folks getting fired and if there’s a layoff you know it’s coming well in advance and they give you a severance. This isn’t bad. Sure there are issues and every team is different, but overall this is a dream job.
Relax. Update your resume. Look at your finances. Plan to be laid off. Keep your skills current. Learn something new each year. Always be scouting for the important projects. If you are not in the top half of your group, you might need to find another group/project.
Don’t worry, when you leave for another job you’ll get emails for openings at AT&T. I worked for Bellsouth/AT&T over 22 years and retired after getting close to a $75k buyout and then went to work for other companies.
Just keep in mind that it's a constant knowing there are always layoffs which is a great incentive to keep your technical skills up to date and your updated resume` always ready! It has worked for me and I've been with T for almost 40 years. It keeps you on your toes, just don't get complacent with your job/career and you'll be fine no matter what direction you go with the company!

I got five years in, I 'hain't a goin' nowhere voluntarily! I plan on doin' fourty.
I got tired of my work being taken away from and given to someone else. work that I got excellent reviews doing and a lot of customer satisfaction.
part of stank and rand being uncomfortable I guess. what a joke don't be good at your job that you enjoy just move on to something else you don't enjoy.
what a joke and is one of the main reason att is a cesspool. stank doesn't know cr-p about doing a good job.
Work on a solid backup plan so you won’t feel so dependent on employment with T. Control your destiny!
