“A communication company that won’t take advantage of WFH when applicable is a company with too many managers trying to justify their jobs while wasting company resources on unneeded real estate.”

So you’ll retire without severance. Simple.

“its funny how the WFH crowd claims on one hand that it is about work/life balance and on the other hand claims they work endless hours at home. there is a lie somewhere in there. if you work so hard at home, why would you fight coming back.”
As a previous poster stated, not having to sit in traffic for hours per day, spend extra time getting ready for the office, at home I can easily grab food or a drink, use my own bathroom, have my own nice desk (not sharing space that changes every time I come in), comfy seat, a monitor and docking station that works, fewer distractions, I can work extra easier and not have to worry about getting home, etc. It’s just way better especially if you deal with open office and don’t have assigned desks. The company really should downsize their office spaces and keep everyone WFH. They could save a ton of money. Especially if the majority of your team are not located in the same city.

No morning or afternoon commute, few distractions, I can work in my birthday suit at home if I want. My restroom is clean with soap, toilet paper, trash cans aren’t overflowing, have easy access if I want food or something to drink. Just a few perks that gives me incentive to stay home, results in more productivity and better mental health. Can’t say the same at the office where most everything is the complete opposite with toxic micromanagement.

If they say we have to go into the office, then that’s what we do. I don’t like it, but that’s the job. I don’t think it makes sense for a lot of people as we are just on teams calls all day. I don’t see anyone I work with at the office as they are all over the country. But ok. Right now I don’t take lunch breaks ever and work a ton of unpaid overtime. If I go back to the office, I’ll be taking lunch breaks and rolling out by 5 like we used to.

I suspect it’s really not about the office. It’s about the older workforce retiring without severance rather than returning to office. Then they weigh that against the savings of closing buildings. That’s the real decision. Accelerated retirement vs accelerated real estate savings.

Oh they can make me come in but they can’t make me like it or be as productive. Quite the opposite!

Absolutely. Right now I get to see my wife and child while I answer emails in the morning and evening. You take that way? I'm done at 4:00 PM. Fu-k your unpaid OT.

If they send out an email that basically states all workers report to the office for your 40hrs or resign you would have no choice. Resignation does not get severance.

They can easily enforce it if they go 100% rto.
AT&T can't enforce much. This is the company that adopted MSOC.

Look what they did to the union workers. VP sent an email that basically said we work better when we’re together therefore everyone has to be in the office all day every day starting oct 12th 2022. We all did it to keep our jobs.

You are not required to maintain your current employment with T. You can quit anytime you don’t feel like abiding by their terms of employment. Stand up, be an adult and quit instead of crying on a forum. Christ, you sound like a little kid that didn’t get the ice cream they wanted.

Have you ever known at&t to effectively manage any program? The answer is no! It's hard to imagine any employee returning to the office. Do they have the ability to track who is on the corporate LAN vs. those off the LAN, yes they do. However, the company wants to keep the good employees and cut the ringers. That's where the program bogs down. They don't want to alienate the good employees, so it becomes difficult separating the wheat from the chaffe.

remote monitoring - keep alive devices
LAN reports - I was on wifi
badge swipes - swipe and leave

managers will never stop it because the last thing they need is upset direct reports

RTO = Return to Oppression, to justify unneeded staff and upper management jobs.

RTO is a total joke. Go to any office, nobody wants to talk to anyone, let alone collaboration. Those AVP and Vp guys mandate RTO because their jobs is to keep the building where they are assigned to remain open otherwise they will be transferred to other locations away from their homes. F***k RTO
