Thread regarding Mondelez International Inc. layoffs

Thoughts on joining now?

Hey! I work for another incredibly large manufacturing company ( think Top 5 for dividend aristocrats with some public legal troubles). I am wanting to leave due to tanking financials, constant layoffs, and above mentioned legal troubles. I am getting pretty far in my interview rounds w Mondelez and seem hopeful with the state of your company (compared to mine lol). I know this site is for highlighting the negatives in general but are there any long term problems or general red flags that y’all have? I see people are saying “don’t work here” but why?

27 stores. It took 2 weeks to stop in them all. Now I’m stocking 2-3 stores plus 2 order writes per day. No time to sell or work with my FTSRs

If you feel that this is a necessary step, who are any of us to tell you otherwise. The company itself is a strong company and it will be around for a long time still. But one thing to keep in mind, it is still a profit based business that we are in. Cutthroat actions sometimes are a necessity to keep that profit margin. When I started here 20+ years ago, the company was on a hiring frenzy. Their turnover ratio was probably at one of its worst. As long as you're willing to work to make something of the situations that will arise, because they will, you'll do ok maybe even good here.
Unfortunately, I've seen them make mistakes. Mistakes that are repeats of what they should have learned from after previous actions. We are in the process of yet another realignment within the company structure. You could come in and like myself and others survive and make a career out of the job. But know that each time, the moves and situations they cause get harder especially with the influx of young minds that come in and want to reinvent how we do business. Our old style methods, in my opinion, are still the best. Unfortunately, younger minds don't have that same attitude or even approach to the business. The program that we are "evolving " to with the high selling territories and full time order writers under a sales rep are the same program we tried 20+ years ago but with different titles for the participants. A sales rep was called a territory manager with a super territory that consisted of 20 to 25 stores. The order writers were called retail reps and each territory had 2 to 4 of them depending on volume. The biggest difference and I think most important thing was each territory was oversaturated with help. That is not the case this time around. The management structure will change this go round too. Less DMs and 2 RMSs per district. The districts are going larger too. Too large for proper supervision in my opinion.

The decision of entering into this company is completely all up to you. I just wanted to give you a little history lesson. History repeats itself, I never fully understood that phrase until I experienced it firsthand. Good luck.

All the reps in our area merchandise and write orders. They increased the store counts on the routes to 19-26 stores, and it's business as usual, but more work for sure.

How are you getting OT. Reps don't write orders or merchandise. What are you doing

Everyone on my team is miserable, sales and merchandisers. Merchandisers are the lowest paid in the area as well as other companies don't force their merchandisers to do sales and order write like they do here. The only people I see that are on board here is people that have no tangible skills to apply for another job and are stuck. I've had my DM get mad at me for working OT instead of working off the clock. If that doesn't say anything then I don't know what does.

If all were that good at Mondelez, it would not be a revolving door! Total BS! The role of the RMS is to train new hires, they don’t have time cause all they do os try to hire! Very telling!

I'm not fake and everything I posted is true. It's the other posters I think are fake. I talk with reps from my team and neighboring team and while it is a stressful time, everyone staying is on board. Are we short staffed at the moment? Yes some territories are but they are hiring at a nice hourly rate and things will get better. I get it that some people are angry they can't sit in cars for a few hours every day to get to 40 hours. They might actually have to do their job with a little honestly and a little hustle. Not many people mind you but I have a feeling some who post here are not happy about that fact.

You’d be nuts to work at Mondelez! For starters, management is abusive in how they treat employees! They will literally work you to death! They will say “no overtime” but if your stores need something and you don’t go, it’ll be the last time they give you anything! Bonus structure is a joke! They just fired half the field sales workers and the other half won’t be around long….hope that helps! Every single person on our team prayed nightly they were getting a severance offer!
The only time anyone will be nice to you is in the interview stage, after that it’s all just ugly!

Whoever the poster of this is, you sound fake AF. I 100% believe this is a fake post by someone from the company, probably their damage control sector.

Also, the reply talking about the managers all coming from the field, and how great it is. Fake, fake, and FAKE!!!

In my area the managers all came from the field. They help whenever they can and hire good people. They care about work life balance and proactively do something about it if you have issues. Turnover is at every company but the people I hear that left say the grass is not greener. In fact, they miss what they had with Nabisco. It's not a hard job if you are trained correctly and actually do the job efficiently. I wish everyone on here the best.

Mondelez hires anyone that's breathes because the turnover is so bad. Damn near impossible to get fired unless you are kicked out of an account. Benefits aren't bad for anyone that's in a sales position or higher. However, managers are often too inexperienced for their responsibility and love to micromanage. You are treated as an expense and not an asset here. Senior management has stated in the past that this company doesn't pay for quality (employees) However, it is a consistent pay check and fairly reliable if you can overlook everything else. If you are looking to get out of your current job asap, it'll be a good step but don't plan on making it a long term career.
