I don’t want to go back to the life I had before. I’ve never been closer to my family thanks to the extra time I get to spend with them instead of commuting. I still work hard. I do my full hours and then some. And I’ve never been happier. I hate even thinking about losing all that.

"Taxing" employees to prop up the CR market is doomed to fail. In a sense it doesn't matter what our company does, it matters what others do and eventually the competition will realize that they can do what we do for hundreds of millions less per year simply by being remote when it makes sense. Herd mentality is running amok now, as it often does, and it often leads to failure. This case will be no different. This company needs to stop wasting money before it's to late. We could slash all those properties costs and tell the rest of the banking community "come work at wells, where we respect you and how you can work most efficiently". Bo-m, we just took most of the really talented people from the competition. It's literally that easy, BoA, JPMC, etc. employees would be fighting like wild dogs to bail on the dinosaurs and work here.
Or, we could follow the herd and eventually get picked off by more agile and efficient predators. At this point, I'm not sure this company doesn't deserve to fail.
I took a job at SVB for being 100% remote. Loved it. Now any job that is anywhere close in salary is at least 3 days in the office. This is going to be an adjustment when we are all looking for new jobs.
I just got laid off after 30 years because I do not live within 40 miles of a hub. I would have driven to any office to keep my job! Stop complaining about RTO. Go look for another job and I would gladly take your job

I just wonder when "return to work" is going to happen. Everything is meaningless corporate BS and busy work now. Every time I try to get real work done I get an invite to yet another irrelevant meeting. None of this S is in my job description, and in fact no one seems to care about what our jobs are anymore. Much more important that you waste time on useless BS that has rolled down from the clueless execs. These people act like we have nothing else to do. It's us that makes this company billions of dollars every quarter, not them. Charlie and his mob need to GTFO.
Yes so glad i drive 2 hours to sit in a cube wearing noise cancelling headphones to drown out loud coworkers, counting sown the minutes. So much for green initiatives and employee health.
With OP grinning-and-bearing the RTO mandate and @Lurker waiting to squat in a vacant position, working at Wells sounds like working for the government as presumably most of these roles are exempt and unnecessary.

I hated WFH when I had an assigned desk and all my co-workers were in the same location. I preferred meeting in person. Now I come in and have to find an empty desk in my assigned area. I know one person, but i don’t work with her. I get on my computer to send emails and chat with people who are all located in other states. I can’t get to know anyone because no displayed names and no assigned neighbors. I chat with the cafe staff. That is it.
Completely agreed. You should probably try to find a new job ASAP since RTO isn't going away anytime soon.

In office makes sense for some roles, but not for thousands of others. Literally 100% of my comm is via digital means because everyone is distributed due to customer location. Driving into a building with no one in my group is a complete waste of time. Been doing it for a year and I don't think that the execs communications on this subject are BS, I know they are. Everyone in Hudson Yards needs to be fired.
