Pros and cons?

Mentored three young people in my time. One turned out very good. One was terminated for cause.
The third was what you'd call a "diversity hire". I thought he had potential, but one day he just decided to stop coming to work, and had a bad attitude when we called him. We had to let him go. I suspect he started running with a bad peer group and got into dr-gs.
I really went to bat for that third kid, but after that I never took on another one.
If you are a malleable suck-up, or want to learn how to become one, I highly recommend. Like attracts like, so be sure to aim for someone who likes to mention Diversity & Inclusion (who doesn't practice what they preach).
I did, about 15 years ago. Had two "mentees" at different times. One went on to a successful career in San Francisco. The other ended up getting fired for behavioral issues.
Probably good for youngins'. Not worthwhile for others, since most are dead inside (both sides) and enthusiastic mentors are often Kool-Aid drinkers. Tired of the platitudes at this dinosaur factory.
WF cheerleaders are delusional and will eventually realize their p-m poms are on fire.
I've been on both sides of mentoring relationships. If you are young and motivated, seek out someone in a higher position that you admire and ask them if they would be a mentor to you. Good leaders will be thrilled to help. It can help give you a perspective on your career that you probably don't have. It also shows you are a 'go getter' and could help you as you try to advance your career.
I did and got promotion after that. Just do it and won’t cost you anything.
@shs+1lEiWdT7 It's unfortunate you've never met anyone worth a d@mn @Wells to have that view of the mentorship program. I can name more than a handful of people I would mentor under to gain differing insights. It doesn't have to be a WF focused mentorship, it is what you make it.
Take all that with a grain of salt though, I have yet to participate although I have been looking into it.
3rd party thing? Mentorship at WF would be cringeworthy.
I’ve found them beneficial. You’ll want to have a few ideas of what you want to work on, for example personal branding, networking, strategy..
Yeah.. I deleted that email after I read it. At 49, I doubt WF wants me polluting anyone with my woke agenda.
I'm just starting my 2nd one and I find great value in it.
They used to be the rage about 10 years ago. I've just grown past the benefits now. If you're younger, I'd probably recommend.
