Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoff blast from the past

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2019/05/att-promised-7000-new-jobs-to-get-tax-break-it-cut-23000-jobs-instead/

Look at the numbers and exclude Time Warner and the other small companies. See where SBC/AT&T was for employee count vs. today’s numbers. Tech hasn’t evolved that much for such a drastic reduction in a short time but poor leadership and decisions have hollowed out a once great company, victimized many small communities and families. Feels like other great companies of years gone bye, Enron, WorldComm, Sears, Lehman Brothers, GE, etc…. And politics wasn’t or isn’t the downfall!

Thousands of people have very little work to do for years and executives don’t even know?

Randell said "We will be managing decline" if AT&T doesn't get out of the connectivity business. You need to understand that Randell could not see the future beyond his nose. Stankey is no visionary either. The "executives" thought to abandon wireline and wireless connectivity and bet the Farm on DirecTV and Warner Media. How did that work out? Oh wait, just a little thing called +130 billion of debt. Guess what is being used to pay down that debt... Wireline fiber and mobility 4G and 5G revenues.
This is the elephant in the room, our "leadership" has caused more damage to AT&T than any competitor or economic pressure could have ever done..

No truer words have been written! Technicians in my area of the country do one installation per day, usually done by noon and the rest of the day is theirs to loaf and upper management is totally oblivious to this! They think we're all working at least 7 hours per day. How do you spell, C-L-U-E-L-E-S-S!

Yeah everyone at T-Mobile should be thankful, none of them would have jobs if it wasn't for Randall.

People are so unappreciative of Randall and the jobs he created.

The shills usually come out with multiple post to submerse the truth or try to disparage the poster and their comments. Good luck with that, facts speak louder!

The fact is the company is top heavy and has been for many years. Now that the company is "right sizing" the work force in the right places, a lot of management "assets" are concerned they will be discovered for what they are, redundant. Not needed. A cost that can be eliminated to achieve the goal of an "Industry Leading Cost Structure".

Doesn't it sound better that way than saying you're fired? Nobody cares.

"Do you honestly believe that AT&T would have received that funding without spending some in government subsidized housing? They might as well cancel their plans to get more this year if they had of bypassed that segment of the population. Just the way it works."

No I do not. AT&T will tell you how ethical they are, so it must be true. I know that AT&T placed fiber and spent no small amount to do so on the Governments dime and that fiber will be dark for a very, very long time. The "customers" in government subsidized housing will not be revenue generating in my life time. I have never connected a Gpon/PFP to an apartment address.

AT&T spent a majority of the Government money on the fiber build out to addresses that AT&T knows they will never have to connect to, never have to serve, and never have to upgrade the network in any way to serve "these phantom fiber customers"

Spoken like a true sycophant. Try thinking up something new for once, not the same old tropes “yay. more rerun posts.” or “Whiners are going to whine.”

How about, don’t believe your lying eyes.

Company C-Suite shills always hate when someone post the factual information about the ineptitude of AT&T leadership and all the lives they’ve effected negatively without any consequences. The company employee count is almost half of what it was just a few years ago with less assets, revenue, net profits, growth, dividends, reputation, respect, innovation, benefits and stability.

The current excuse to this dismal failure is that people aren’t paying their bills on time. They’ve just about ran out of excuses when that’s the best they can come up with, LOL! . This all happened long after breakup, it falls squarely on Whitacre, Stephens, Stanky and the BOD with their power hungry acquisition schemes. Wake-up major stock investors and vote the b-ms out a JOB.

P.S.

If a blood donation is the cure then AT&T should be the most healthiest patient on the planet by now.

Layoff is like blood donation. Allows your body to get rid of toxins and forevet chemicals. It is safe to donate blood every 8 weeks. T is getting healthier.

AT&T received a substantial amount of Government funds to build out the fiber network with the condition that a certain number of residences have access to that fiber network. What did AT&T in typical phuckery do? They created the MDU project (Multiple Dwelling Unit) AKA apartments to meet the quota. Best part is AT&T selected the MDU locations in government subsidized apartments. No chance in he-l that AT&T would ever have to offer services to those locations, but they would pass the "number of addresses" served by fiber to meet the agreement and get the money.
AT&T is a sham on top of a scheme holding hands with a scam. Has been this way for some time but it got worse (or maybe better depending if one is in the C-Suite) with Randell. Stankey is just bumbling along. He made a lot of stupid videos that would make anyone question his viability as a Telecomm leader, or leader in general. Now lately, he thankfully has stayed in the background. Let us hope he remains there and AT&T can focus on 5G and fiber without distraction from his "wise" guidance. We can't afford anymore of that.

Corporate America is on their way back to the gilded age of the late 1800’s. Extremely long hours, no weekends off, little to no benefits, abject poverty, raises nearly nonexistent, company towns with company chit for pay which was only good at their stores. It was near serfdom with many ki-led due to unsafe working conditions or dying at an early age by being overworked with poor health, no money and in despair.

It resulted in the rise of Unions and all the labor, safety laws and benefits (healthcare, pension’s, paid time off, wage increases, etc..) everyone enjoys today. Unfortunately organized crime groups was a major influence on them in the 50’s-70’s in some of the larger unions (Teamsters aka Jimmy Hoffa) and caused a dislike/hate for unions in the corp world. So a lot of people only think of the bad but not back to history and all the good that unions brought about by having a negotiated signed contract, just like the C-suite enjoys now.

We now need a resurgence of balance to mitigate this runaway Greed! Unions are a good vehicle to do this with proper governance and oversight to stop the same thing that’s happening in Corporate boardrooms and C-suites now.
