Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Just got my layoff notice

and a years SIPP. then my boss came back and offered my old job back as evidently they got it wrong. No one here to replace my UNIX programming job. Who in the programming world knows UNIX today?
In meantime, I found a corporate job writing UNIX programs for an engineering firm for $50k more than AT&T.
So, To: AT&T --- NO THANKS> GET BENT.
I be, non-wok, non-unemployed, non-thrown away like an old shoe and enjoy finding someone to correct, test, write those UNIX programs.
Oh. I also get to work from home.
Bye Bye!

"I have quantum computing skills!!!"

Yeah, I was pretty sure no one on this board would know what TL1 is!

The unique skill would be knowing Unix and TL1.

Last I knew 6 months was the maximum regardless of years of service for your severance package. The story seems like just that a story. No offense but I agree with one of the earlier comments Unix programmers are diamond dozen the market is very saturated. I'd be surprised if he got a job making 50k more but if you did That's great Happy for you but the whole story seems a little bit suspect.

So let's see if I got this straight. First you "Just got my layoff notice", then your "boss came back and offered my old job back" but "In meantime, I found a corporate job".

You just demonstrated time dilation. Well done, sir!

B..but....what about your inability to "collaborate" in the office?

And we spent 120 million to make the office nicer than home. Even closed in the street!

You ungrateful child. No healthcare in retirement for you, no sir.

Congrats! Also money talks, bs walks. I would bounce too. I’m one of the lucky newer employees that doesn’t have a pension plan, if something better comes along, I’ll leave. Nothing keeping me here.

Writing UNIX programs? Who knows UNiX today? You sound disconnected - they’re UNIX servers all over T with all types of people writing code - many scripting languages, Java, C++, etc. folks are a dime a dozen. Perhaps you have a unique skill that is specific to some T equipment. “Just got your layoff notice” and already found a Corporate job writing UNIX programs. What is a corporate job? How does it differ from the similar job you had at T? That was not a corporate job?

Congratulations but you will miss all the fun town hall meetings and wok training, more important than running a merit based business.

Glad to hear you managed to improve your career strategy by getting ahead of this ulcer causing lifestyle you've endured with T! Best of luck to you!

When the company you work for can’t even get the layoff notices right, that’s saying something.
Congratulations on the new job. That’s one way to turn a negative into a positive.
