Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What is the common theme at Wells Fargo?

In every instance where the bank got in trouble, whats always been there....what is the common issue?

"Risk, Controls and Governance"

The issues lately?
Where Indian Wells Fargo executive unin8d on a innocent bystander?
Or an executive r@ping a subordinate, then s3xually harassing her for months?
Or what about Charlie and his team of grifters front running employee 401ks so their personal granted options vest in the money?

What is the common theme?

ROTTEN CULTURE?

We are not getting the best and the brightest, but the most cunning and despicable?

Anyone have a better answer?

The problem is always the executives.

@zta+115BVVEC is spot on. When you pay less for talent, you get incompetence, quiet quitters, or people who game the system to increase their compensation. I am in the just do your job and nothing more camp.

I love how the news reports about the incident on the airplane always says "executive" because he had a VP title. Everyone at the bank has a VP title. It does not make you an executive.

HR not listening or taking action against complaints. Single biggest problem. 90% of issues can be tracked back to someone making a complaint or escalating an issue.

I have only worked with people with the utmost integrity who have put in their best career years with wf. Any manager with a legitimate or even questionable complaint should be replaced or first on layoff list. They need to have a higher standard. There should be a no tolerance rule implemented. This is an hr and management turning a blind eye problem.

We are not getting the best and the brightest, but the most cunning and despicable.

I've never seen so many "cunning and despicable" people in one company as I have here. Truth and intelligence are not appreciated. Group think is.

A few years ago, the bank was mandated- MANDATED- to hire external people to change their culture. What happened? The smart, new blood was beaten away by the old guard & for the most part left or is staying quiet as they don't want to lose their livelihood. The old guard is entrenched in ideology, systems and attitude that protects their paycheck, not fixing things that need fixing. The smart people figured it out long ago, saw the 401K changes, the year end review fake "calibration", the fake interviews and left. Next.

It's what America's version of capitalism requires.

OP - I agree 100%. To me, the question is how to fix it? As long as the Board and our CEO are aligned - it will never change until large shareholders wisen up and start complaining and/or suing for mismanagement. Or customers start leaving in droves. Or the government finally shuts us down.

Personally, I’m surprised all 3 of these things aren’t occurring right now.

Wells Fargo gets what they pay for. When you have a toxic managerial culture combined with a lackluster compensation scale for talent, you end up with dysfunction, complacency, and incompetence from all ends. You could be the most amazing, high performing employee one day, but stay here long enough, you’ll start hating life and struggling to find meaning, validation, and fulfillment in anything we do.

It’s easy to say to look elsewhere, but American corporate work culture is notoriously slow to change and seems designed to enrich the few at the expense of those who do the heavy lifting.
