@1obk, you said it perfectly bubba. Plus they use it against you when it's time for bonus and merit increase.

Meets is a really good rating... until it's time for rewards, then it's "what do you expect, you only got a Meets"

I've found that the new ranking system has tanked my morale. For literally years I've always received 4s and 5s, but now I'm getting the equivalent of a 3. Management can tell us all they want that Meets is actually a good rating, but when it's 3 out of 5 it comes across as average.

Good work leads to easy resume bullet points that don’t have to be embellished or thought up out of thin air, and the ability to back-up said bullet points when asked in interviews. So you can take those resume points and go get a new job that will recognize your increased value and pay accordingly. It also makes you more crucial to your boss; when push comes to shove they’ll determine if/how much they’re willing to counter-offer based on how badly they need to keep you, not on whether or not you got “exceeds” on your last performance review.

it's no wonder you are meet, surprised you aren't below that.

Used to bust my a-s until we got the RTO mandate. Was hired as fully remote. WF broke the work agreement so now it’s bare minimum all the way baby!

Oh, you young’uns will learn what the boomers already know sooner or later. If you really want to question life itself, do the math between the number of extra hours it takes to get exceeds and the difference between meets and exceeds merits.

If you work harder here, you are cutting your own pay.

Depends on the group. I've been promoted 4 times since I got here and higher than meets ratings most every year also. And no, it's not because my boss and I hit the bar every night after work, I'm not colocated.

I'll bust my a-s at home, not in the office though. Nope. Not gonna do it.

All working your a$$ off will get you is more work. There is NOTHING in it for you. No raise. No promotion. No protection from layoffs. Nothing. You might get an occasional head pat, but other than that you will be treated exactly the same as the coworkers you carry.

In fact, if you are too good your manager will see you as a threat and undermine you. Better to be average and blend.

I learned this 2 yrs ago and have saved myself a lot of time and energy. Brown nosers are pathetic and often don't get Exceeds+, so Meets is best path.
