USE ALL OF YOUR PTO AND SICK TIME WHILE YOU CAN!

Unfortunately, I live in a "use it or lose it" state. I have 120 hours of sick time and 66 hours of PTO that I need to use within the next two weeks. To make matters worse, my PL said we're not allowed to request time off during the first and last weeks of August and the beginning of September because those weeks are blocked by the company. This literally only leaves the week of 8/10 & 8/17 to use it and with sick time, i would need a drs note for anything more than 3 days smh...

It really su-ks. That's a lot of earned time—and a lot of money—I may end up leaving on the table.

DO NOT BELIEVE YOUR PL! GO TO HR IMMEDIATELY! EITHER YOU USE IT OR THEY PAY UP - WHICH ONE WILL IT BE. FYI I DID READ THAT IF YOU ARE SICK IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS YOU CAN USE SOME SICK TIME - BUT I WOULD GO WITH THE HR ROUTE AND NOT LEAVE ANYTHING ON THE TABLE. I HAVE HAD TO CALL HR FOR MY RIGHTS -LIKE VOTING TIME AND COVID BENEFITS BECAUSE MY PL WAS NOT ALLOWING ME TO USE IT AND I WON

@OP You can use sick time for appointments also. Schedule 1 and take the entire day. If they don't need proof..

That’s crazy! The only 2 weeks before 9/4 is what u can’t take.

You have to use time off before Aug 21st if your last day of the9/4 date.
If your PL is saying you can't use your time off before then then that's wrong! I'm sure your PL would use their time of it was them. It's not your fault this is happening!
Also be sure to plug in the date correctly when checking how many days you actually have. I get 183 hours a year but if I was leaving on the 9/5 date I would only have about not even a week left because of what I have already used and because of how the accrual works.

Congratulations to you and your new journey! They will be fine without you after 9/4 so they will be fine now without you. Take your time off you deserve it.

Can you alternate sick time and pto?? Or just go out on FMLA continuous or intermittent and then you can utilize FMLA and get paid with all of your sick time and vacation time.

I think the last 2 weeks before you leave are called "transitional weeks," and we can't take vacation time. I'm so sorry. I like to save up my time too. My exit date is further out, so I'll def be taking vacation; although, I don't have as many hours as you do. I think all you can do is strategically take off as much time as possible.

So take the entire week of 8/10 off via PTO = 40 hrs.
Then on the week of 8/17, take 24 PTO hrs. off (which = Monday thru Wednesday, full days.) Submit it for your PL's approval, and take a screenshot of the approval before you take the PTO.

Then just "call in sick" for Thursday & Friday.
And take more "sick" days off, one or two at a time, weekly, until you leave!
You don't need a doctor's note for 1 or 2 days' sick leave at a time, and there's no limit on using what you've accrued, even if it just happens to be more often than you're usually "sick".
And you don't need your PL's approval for taking sick days, either.

If your PL presses you for why you just happen to be "out sick" even after taking almost a full 2 weeks of PTO, tell them the VSP situation has been making you so stressed out, that you're literally physically ill about it. They don't need to know details, and you aren't obligated to provide them with any.

LOL

But really, you have to look at it as a blessing that you're getting out with VSP $, AND out on the first wave of the September departure date. Try not to mourn the loss of accrued time off, look at it as you've been gifted with collecting much more $$ on the way out, AND that they're paying YOU to liberate yourself from their toxic, sick environment!

Blocked?? That doesn't sound right. I advise contacting HR directly about that statement so you're not being misled about PTO. Sick time doesn't require approval; you just submit it and voilà. However, your PL may want a doctor's excuse for sick leave longer than three (3) days per company policy. Review Centene's policy for sick leave.

There are no weeks blocked by the company . You don not need approval you use sick time. VSP terms said it PTO in last week weeks of employment.
