Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Culture week

Next week is Culture Week, everyone! Get ready for the toxic leaders of one of the world's most contemptible, companies to gaslight their employees into thinking we have a culture that goes beyond mistreating people, devaluing them and underpaying them. You really can't make this sh-t up.

@mt oh boy now we bring in religion complaints? I have no problem with any religion; in fact, I firmly believe the stories are all great fiction for their time. Raëlianism baby !

I just had a job offer immediately rescinded by Optum yesterday after trying to negotiate a reasonable salary within the band limits. This thread confirms I dodged a bullet. I saw the red flags and was hesitant to take the role.

@hq You actually like your job but you visit this page?? This company has one cultural priority and it started with the Li--y who FINALLY got fired after getting rich working here as if he any strategic leadership skills coming from Pharma! All he did is indoctrinate DEI and suppress Christian workers like myself for sending Easter or Christmas greetings to my colleagues. Yes I was spoken to multiple times because I refused to watch Daiwala emails come out and then have to signoff happy holidays, NO! So dress trans, hang your rainbow flag with no Scripture verses, you will have a wonderful week!

I don't remember any "Culture Week" activities at Optum, but hopefully it's more useful than the monthly "Culture Call" meetings that my team had for many years.

Unfortunately what was meant by "culture" in that case was CORPORATE culture, with recurring topics such as motivation, communication and leading by example.

Motivation presentations often included the so-called "Mood Elevator," which listed many adjectives that weren't really moods and encouraged people to simply will themselves from lesser moods such as "stressed" or "overwhelmed" to better ones such as "appreciative" and "grateful."

Communication was another biggie and attendees would all agree about how vitally important it was. Then just an hour after the meeting was over, everyone was back to their old communication-related bad habits.

About every other month someone would bring up Michael Jordan, Oprah Winfrey or Mother Theresa as an example of a great role model. As far as I know none of them worked in health insurance or had to deal with outsourcing, AI or other corporate BS.

HR was commenting about the comment below theirs from @hq, not the original post. Calm down people. No need to attack hr. Also, none of us choose our anonymous tag name.

@hr quite interesting that your handle is “HR” and you are cussing at the OP. Very telling.

There’s a session at the end of the day I took so I can put it on and space out. There, I met the requirement

@hr you must be the type of loser the OP referring to. No integrity. I wish we had a report button to report your comment.

Could you please keep threads about LAYOFF rumors and corporate info leaks. Subjects on disparaging companies, organizations, or co-workers; there are other sites for that. BTW- I like it here and enjoy my ability to make a living here.

@bb Yep, it is required. It was even brought up in our weekly meeting that we are to attend one of the scheduled meetings.

I never attend these. I have real work to take care of, so offshore can attend culture week, their dance parties, Optum bus concerts , a million sick days and holidays, Holi mess, Diwali week, Ganesh and dozen other festivals. They might as well make this a Diwali in July week and leave us onshore alone to do our job ie fixing offshore's mess.

@b3 Yeah, didn’t you get the memo?! Us Americans apparently are evil sc-m and the rest of the world are supposed to get even with us and put us in our place?! In our country, mind you. And we are supposed to smile and take it. [sarcasm implied]
