Thread regarding Phillips 66 layoffs

Andr3z the Joke

Lots of discussion on here about the EVP of
HR. Perhaps Mark made another bad hire?! Talk about a poor selector of talent.

@h4 - it all kind of makes one shake their head, doesn’t it?

But the list of folks that hang on to their jobs despite inappropriate behaviors - even when the other party involved is forced out - is a longer one than you think particularly amongst the long tenured (25+ year) crowd at P66. It’s closer to some of the high - profile garbage that has gone on at large integrated oils based in other English speaking countries recently than people think.

Rumors of other salacious behaviors have long surrounded the two protagonists in that tale (as well as other officers) if you sniff around enough. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Value of pension is a decent indication for the curious.

That’s a fair take, I can respect that. I don’t know Son7a’s lineage was ASU - Spain - Miami, that’s about as spicy as it gets. No wonder the old Scot raised his kilt. And now there’s a baby with a new lass?

Best way hedge against a similar situation is to have a man at the HR
helm. We’ve definitely seen numerous executive decisions that make you wonder WTF is going on.

@ak He was well thought of at Deere. Know someone who works there as an exec and his departure was seen as a loss.

Truth be told though - the bar was low to do better than the prior CHRO (the AZ State princess by way of graduate school in Spain and a stint pre P66 in Miami). Any senior exec who would compromise any and all HR related decisions that touched the Fin. function by having that sordid and highly inappropriate relationship with the EV P that runs that function truly lacked exec judgment at best OR was a complete id--t at worst.

Brings into question every single executive level personnel action that happened in that function since AE66 and Transformation kicked off (including several that made no reasonable sense whatsoever by any logical way of thinking-ie not at all performance related), and certainly caused damage to parts of the function and BU’s that it touches (including the largest one that it directly touches which falls under BM).

Two functions absolutely can’t have a disclosed or undisclosed relationship outside their area:
1) HR & 2) Legal. It just can’t ever happen because of what they are privy to relative to every employee. And it’s beaten into everyone from those functions from day one at the lowest levels.

I’m frankly surprised that it didn’t blow up into a bigger scandal - likely because said EV P has surrounded himself with yes men & women incapable of succession who have all been around forever (which to be fair each of the last two CEO’s have enabled). I’ll bet he tries to stick around another 3-4 years.

Anyway - the new CHRO isn’t as bad as some here think. He’s a yes man for sure - but he’s also a damn sight better / more competent than the gross lack of ethics and judgment in the former CHRO that he replaced. But yes-bar is low.

He may be more “down to earth” and “approachable”, but is anyone really approaching him for a chat? I doubt it. What matters more are actions, and how those actions affect employees and the work environment.

He used to drive tractors and was involved in hollowing out a foundational American company. What do you think his objective is here? Actions, not vibes.

Added transparency to roles? Have you looked at the ridiculous AI generated description of the responsibilities for your role?

And I assume he's behind the new effective SGL locks.

I agree with some of the takes on here but this is not one of them. He is down to earth, approachable, and has made a lot of good changes and added transparency to roles. Much better than the previous VP.
