Thread regarding CDW layoffs

AI Wins

Are you seeing any AI wins around you? It has been three and a half years since AI started appearing in every presentation deck at CDW. So, what have we actually accomplished? Where did all the energy, effort, focus, and money go? Oh, well.

CDW is poorly positioned to help anyone with the actual AI part of an AI project. The foundational parts of a company "doing AI" is:
First, figuring out where AI is going to make a measurable difference that actually has ROI (buying, implementing, moving all the data around, powering and cooling all that gear isn't cheap).
Second, figuring out where all the data are that need to be marshalled into the right model.
Third, allowing competent data scientists, who are deeply embedded in the customer's business model, to appropriately join that data into an appropriate AI infrastructure.
Fourth, whilst dealing with #2, understanding what privacy laws, industry regulations, and other gotchas need to be navigated so that the resultant AI doesn't violate privacy, data sovereignty, and other corporation-ending legal issues.

TL/DR #1 for the above: for most customers, unless CDW is willing to commit very expensive people to customers for free assessments/PsOC to even get a nascent AI project going, there's not much that they can do for a customer beyond helping them specify, acquire, and deploy the underlying hardware and, maybe, the software. The rest is going to be beyond anyone like the Solution Architects and FCTOs who can barely spell AI, let alone understand AI for the many customers they cover.

TL/DR #2: Being an expert at a particular AI infrastructure doesn't at all qualify you to actually walk into a customer's datacenter and help them with anything.

I can tell you with one hundred percent honesty and confidence that companies investing in major AI projects are not working with VARs. They don’t think of the CDWs of the world as experts in this space. They are working with SIs that have the scale or boutique services shops who will give their undivided attention to clients.

That agentic agent thing came up with your name on the list for the next round of layoffs, cross-referencing your on-line habits, your laziness at work, your inability to nail simple GP targets and the fact that everyone knows is that your breathe stinks.
