Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

2 Down

Staples will close two stores in August 2026. The stores are in Goleta, California, and Levittown, New York. The closures are part of the long-term plan to reduce its retail store network. Staples reduced its U.S. store count from 929 in October 2025 to 916 in January 2026.

The company is responding to lower demand for traditional office products. More customers now buy online and use digital tools instead of paper-based products. Staples is increasing its focus on business-to-business services. The company still operates more than 100 stores in California and 64 stores in New York. Additional selective store closures are possible.

Staples has been closing retail stores on a regular basis for a few years now. This is nothing new.

More than just those 2. 4 more in August as well. We are less than 900 stores as well. This is nothing new. Just over 10 years ago there was close to 1500 stores.
