Thread regarding Synopsys Inc. layoffs

Voluntary lay off option

Did Synopsys give a voluntary layoff option? I rather take this instead of being here and rob someone else of being here. If I send email to HR will this back fire?

@cr Thanks I did this and also requested to be put on the list. Let’s see. I do believe we have flagged ourself as a flight risk if this doesn’t happen, which in my view is not a bad thing if they want to keep us. Thanks for the reply. I will keep this group posted on what happens.

Historically what I’ve seen is early retirement options for 60+ (in North America) which often is equivalent to severance packages. Getting out by being on the layoff list is often a discussion with your manager or director.

I’ve not seen Synopsys offer voluntary layoff with severances in my 30 years at SNPS.

FYI: I heard they just froze open reqs in NA so I suspect another round is coming soon so talk to your boss; I know the first round a peer was put on it based on his request despite him being a high performer. I’ve made my intentions known also for the next round.

The layoffs will continue and they will not backfill your position once you leave. This puts additional stress on those left behind.

HR serves the interest of the company, and will not act in your interest. If you have a good relationship with your manager, try to negotiate with them instead.

One upside is, unless you put in a formal resignation, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits if you are "involuntarily" terminated. Also, you can pay for health insurance from your HSA while collecting unemployment. If you have any FSA funds, spend them down before your termination date.

If you are an Ansys employee, it looks like you are subject to a 12 month non-compete agreement, unless you live in California or any other state where such agreements are unenforceable.

yes, it is fair to assume that it will backfire.
hr is not your friend... even though they might seem somewhat friendly at times.
