Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Involuntary layoffs question

So, for those of us who might get laid off and we DIDNT take the VSP - do we get no pay? or just get paid the 2 weeks like I keep hearing about? Thats rather cr_ppy! Does anyone here know for sure?

@OP Normally when RIFs happen, a severance package is almost ALWAYS given. I don't believe it will be as "sweet" as the VSP offer tho. That is why i took the offer now. Tooooooo much writing on the walls for me as a person who has been through several layoffs and Rifs with previous companies. Just sayin...

@aa I don't believe "only 4 weeks richer" is correct. A lot of folks seem to think the Enhanced Severance Benefit of 4 weeks means the Severance Benefit calculation in the VSP is what non VSP severance will be. 1+1 does not necessarily equal 2 in this case

Centene/HR have not said the severance after the VSP will be xyz. The non VSP severance is the great unknown.

@aa I know of people who were laid off from the organization in the past that got only 1 week per year worked, no bonus, no cobra so that’s a significant difference from the VSP. Unfortunately it seems that no staff person who is part of the upcoming restructuring can know what they will receive.

UI approval may be made more complicated if you signed an agreement in the summer and are still there months later or in the next calendar year. The VSP offer was that separation would be in September 2026 but that may not be the case for many. Does that change the definition of "imminent"? It is very hard to find any info about this in regard to UI claims.

VSP was only 4 weeks richer. Also, you'll likely get same bonus payout since anyone RIF'd will be here past ~Sept. VSP also had slightly better coverage.

Likely just a lesser amount of weeks but at least there would be UI. Overall if you are voluntary it may be hard to get UI even in states where it might be possible. You will likely have to prove your case for that. Also a voluntary leave date can be well into the future even if that was not on the table initially. That makes things a bit more confusing. Do you get to pick your exit date and how far in the future can it be- 2 months, 6 months? Is it the case that you can actually choose or will it be dictated? Has anyone even thought of this possibility?

In my opinion the first RIF is always the sweeter deal.
