Lump Sum Timing

Because the question around how long it takes to get a severance lump sum payment processed has been asked numerous rimes, by myself included, I thought I'd share my experience. It took two weeks. My guess is as long as they get it and acknowledge it early in a pay cycle window, they'll process it in that window.

Was your lump sum heavily taxed?
My understanding is that it is heavily taxed. However, when you file taxes you will get that back. Do you know if that's true?

Keep in mind d the lump sum is heavily taxed, and, you won't be covered by medical insurance. Mathematically, you will receive more money in severance by having it every other Friday, basically payday, than in a lump sum.

Thank you! This was truly helpful. I can read the documents, but it seemed like the lead time was heavily padded and wouldn’t take 6 weeks in practice.
